4runner TRD Pro

I think I found Toyota's fix/mod for the TRDPs rub issue that caused the previous hold, looks like their solution was to simply cut away the edge of the front fascia on both sides (notice the lack of paint):

Mine did not get held up in the first batch. I can see on my fascia where I need to trim it back a little, it will rub at full right hand turn and a little gas in reverse. Other than that I have never had it rub. I think I will just trim that little piece off so it possibly keeps it from cracking the plastic.

Wow, this is nuts! I can't believe Toyota would address the issue in this manner. This is just not like Toyota to do something like this. It is one thing to trim in this manner but to leave it unpainted is just unbelievable.

:confused::wtf:
As others said.....Back to the dealer and ask for them to correct the HACK!

so, with a 1" front-only lift (was this scaled back even further? the pre-production units seemed higher, no?).... 265/70-17 AT tires featuring a relatively mild tread pattern... and 7" width rims, Toyota is having unforeseen fitment issues that they've deemed require cutting the fender trim at the port?

Mine cut too....

Kind of disappointing that this is the way they solve a quality control issue. For a 42k truck I would expect a little more care.

I would probably be "just a little" perturbed with that kind of "fix" on 40K+ truck.....
It's not like they tried to put 33's on them with a 1" lift.

I hear you, not acceptable on a $40K+ vehicle, but how? If they opt to paint it then you risk over-spray getting onto parts of the fascia. Ideally that section needs a redesign. Looks like its time to get a tube of touch-up paint :artist2:

My guess is that is why they forewent the front lift shown on the pre-production models...it would bring the tire closer to that edge of the fascia if it were lifted.

Really makes you question the automotive knowledge of the "engineers" for missing something this simple, a good mechanic would of noticed the potential clearance issue.

Has anyone considered wheel spacers on the TRD Pro to improve the stance a little bit?

I have a pair of spidertrax I took off my 09 Tacoma just waiting in my garage to be installed. Getting a new impact wrench for Christmas from the wife...give me a good first project. Although I might take it to the dealer first before I install them. My steering wheel is a couple degrees off centered, I think I will have them address this first then do the spacers. Probably blame the spacers if I do them first.

Good plan. How big are they? And do you anticipate having to make any modifications to the fender liner? Thanks in advance.

I don't think I will need to make any modifications, just have to check after install. I think they are 1.25 but I will measure again. They made a noticeable change to my Tacoma.

Has anyone put the westin pro traxx 5 inch tubular side steps on their trd pro? I'm looking to put a set of side steps on mine and these look the best of any I've seen. Only problem seems like it might be the mudflaps.

Do you really think they are the best or is it price?

10/30 delivery and my fenders were modified too....not stoked, but the mod looks better in person than in photos

I've looked for the last week and haven't seen any that LOOK better. For sure for function there are better ones out there. Regardless of price I haven't seen any that look better. But if anyone has put on better looking ones I would love to see pictures, bc at the end of the day I don't mind spending more money if they will look better.

I loved the look and functionality of the Westins on my full size GMC, but I think the 5" bar might look like a little overkill on a 4R. That said I like the look of the Nfab step bars on the 4Runner. But this is such a subjective thing you need to go with your own choice.

I do the think Nfabs would follow the TRD Pro motif better than the Westins, but that's just my opinion. I think putting Westins on a Pro would look like putting a plowing harness on a thoroughbred. :decision:

Well, everyone likes different. But if price is a non-issue I think ShrockWorks Dimpled look the best. IMHO.

Got my Black TRD PRO around OCT 20th.
Trying to determine from the pics exactly where this cutting is taking place, but I seem to have plenty of clearance and do not have the cutting....???
