New to the forum - have wanted a 4runner since my neighbor rolled down the rear window in his when I was a kid in 98! Stumbled across a pic of a Quicksand TRD Pro last week and had to have it! Closest one I could find to my was over 200 miles away. My girlfriend and I decided to go look at any color and try to drive it to make sure we liked it. Drove almost an hour to look at a gunmetal one and someone had wired them the money for it earlier that day. They had not picked it up yet so the salesman was nice enough to pull it inside so we could look at it. Now we were both interested.

A couple days later we found another dealer an hour away with a white one so we called this time and it was still available so we went to drive it. When we got there they told us the 2016 was sold but they had a 2015 with 20k on it. They let us drive that. They had a small test track with inclines and rough surfaces we were able to drive it on. We are coming from an Audi Q5 and still wanted something that would be comfortable to drive at highway speeds. We both enjoyed driving it and decided to pull the trigger as soon as we could find a quick sand one. Every dealer we were at had a different answer when asked about ordering one - Some dealers said 2-3 months and some said 6 months. Because of this we decided to try and find one in stock within 750 miles.

We spent the next few days calling every dealer with one advertised on cars.com and autotrader. Every single one was either a pre order or it had been sold. I still can't figure out why pre orders were making it all the way to cars.com but it was very frustrating. One dealer told me he could have me one in just over 2 weeks but he would not sell them for MSRP. Informed me he had sold 3 already and the cheapest was $47,500.

After all the frustration we decided to go to the dealer closest to our house and order one. The only option I really wanted, which I had only seen on one quick sand thus far, was remote start. All said and done the dealer said it will be here in early March - about six weeks.

Hopefully their time frame is correct - but after reading some of the posts here I am thinking it will be longer. I am also interested in how some of you got them below MSRP.

Either way we are very excited and it is going to look great in the garage with my 2014 Sand Camo Denim Harley Davidson Street Glide and 1981 Mojave Beige VW Rabbit Pickup!

I really wanted a TRD Pro in Quicksand also, and also had to jump through a lot of hoops to get one. I was vacillating between a Tacoma TRD OR in QS and the 4Runner. Finally I was honest with myself and decided that I very rarely use a truck bed (I had an 88 Toyota Pickup that I drove for 17 years) and went to searching for a TRD Pro in QS. I wanted QS because my dad drove an FJ40 in that tan'ish color from the 70s.

I searched the local dealerships in NC, then widened the search to SC and VA, on cars.com, autotrader, and the SE Toyota website. I contacted a dealer in SC who I thought had one on their lot, and came to terms with them on a sale. and then found out that the truck wasn't on their lot. The other dealership didn't want to sell it to them.

So I started searching again. I actually think I found the vehicle that the first dealership I made a deal with was trying to get. It was also in SC, and they had it listed on their website as a TRD Pro, but had the color as the Toyota color code instead of justing saying "quicksand." I contacted them and eventually made a deal (MSRP, they wouldn't budge, and had other buyers interested). Bear in mind, I'm deployed, so this was by email/phone from several thousand miles away, haha. My wife has to drive down with a power of attorney tomorrow to sign the paperwork. In all my searching, 90% of the TRD Pros in QS were already sold/had been ordered before they got to the lot.

You have to turn key two times to the right without turning the engine over and the remote start works as it should.

Can you explain this to me? The Toyota remote start is triggered by 2 quick lock presses and holding down lock on the 3rd press. In order to get into the vehicle, you have to unlock it, which kills the engine.

This doesn't seem right - that defeats the purpose of remote start if it kills the engine by unlocking the car.

The brake thing is correct - when you get in the car - put the key in and turn it to ON (don't go past to START) and then hit the brake. This is a fail safe so no one can try to drive the car without the key.

That is how the remote start was designed. The reason it works that way, in the keyed vehicles at least, is so you put the key in before you drive away. Maybe it isn't so necessary on the Limited trucks with smart keys, but this ensures that you use the key to start driving the vehicle in the SR5, TE, and Pro vehicles.

I thought about ordering from two dealers and seeing which came first - unfortunately that would require $2,000 here. I had to put $1,000 down on the first one - not $500 like a lot of you are saying.

Yeah, not sure what Toyota was thinking. I know ford and Cadillac don't behave like the Toyota rs.

He's mainly talking about the Push to Start. Which while nice sometimes, can be annoying offroading. I like having a mechanical key. The only thing I HATE about the mechanical key is that it doesn't flip open like a VW key, so it's prone to spear you in the ass cheek when it's in your pocket.

It's the damn year 2016, why can't we get flip out keys for our 'Yotas!?!

Because the old keys still work. Toyota changes nothing until it is absolete.

Mine arrived from the port today at Toyota of Escondido and I drove it home tonight. They now have a waiting list 9 deep and appear to get about 1 per month.

How many 2016 trd pros are going to be made? How many of each color. I thought i read somewhere that there were about 3,500 2015 model pros made for the u.s.?

New here.....What type gas mileage are all seeing out of their TRD PRO's?

Just picked up our 2016 a month ago, should say the wife's new ride. Our kids are starting travel less and less with us so we traded her Mercedes R350 in, was starting to nickle and dime us on repairs; this was our replacement from our old TJ (were running 4.56 gears, ford 8.8 w/Detroit soft locker, d35 w/ox locker, 35's ect... list goes on & on).

We have seen TRD go as 16.7 MPG and after the snow last week it seems to have settled in at around 16 MPG. We only have around 2,500 miles currently. Just curious to know where peeps are seeing their MPG settling in at with more mileage than us.

My guess is that Toyota's intent was to help keep your T4R yours. The possibility of opportunistic thieves stealing a vehicle is greatly reduced if the engine cuts off at the unlocking or opening of the door. It's a serious enough issue in Colorado during the winter, that some locales have made puffing (warning your car up unattended) illegal and can issue a citation.

I've found the remote start cumbersome and never use it. It seems to be hit or miss (mostly the latter) when I try to utilize it.
