4runner TRD Pro

My San Diego experience:

I got completely different answers from dealers here in San Diego on 2017s. Most would not take a deposit, Toyota Carlsbad finally did, $500, fully refundable. I got on their list at 10th in line, requesting Cement Gray. They feel that around half of the folks on the list, despite deposits, will bail on the purchase. They also guarantee selling at MSRP. Kearney Mesa Toyota said they be selling (attempting...) at $7500 over MSRP. Toyota of El Cajon would not take deposits and said first come first serve. Lastly, knowing how large Longo Toyota in LA is, I called there, I think they said their list was around 28 folks deep and advised that they felt it was unlikely they could get that many vehicles.

All over the map here....

With the advent of the new TRD models, I suspect that production volume will be much higher than 2016 for the TRD Pro, but that's obviously speculative.

Good luck to all!

Shoot - that's not great news. I'm in your boat - trying to secure a white '17. All ready to go with money - just need to find one at sticker. Let me know if you find anything - also, what color you going for? If I find one, i'll send it your way.

TRD Pro - Marsha

I picked up my TRD Pro in January as a replacement for my 2007 Tacoma TRD SR5 4x4 that had frame rot. It was my second Tacoma with frame rot and so simply put - NO MORE TACOMAS for me. I searched for pickups and then spotted this TRD Pro at the local dealer. It was a 2015 with about 2,000 miles and was in perfect condition. I had never heard of the TRD Pro model, but I liked the looks and after some research, fell in love with the suspension and extras.

I have done some simple mods to start:
Gobi Stealth rack and ladder
Tepui roof top tent
CVT Batwing awning

and have a minor lift and 285s in mind within the next year or two. I love that it gets about 18 to 20 miles per gallon and is ridiculously comfortable to drive. I never thought that I would get and SUV after I sold my 1985 4Runner with 230,000 miles, but this truck does everything my pickup did and it does things better.

Teeth to the wind,

To the individuals who have put a deposit down on a 2017 TRD Pro, is this to save a spot in line to order a 2017 TRD Pro or did you physically option out your 4Runner already? Every dealer I've spoken to will take my deposit but do not have the 2017 pricing yet so I cannot build out my 4Runner. Just curious if pricing has been released yet.

You just need to come to the Midwest. We actually had some sitting on our lot not claimed prior to delivery. Also they wheeled and dealed a little on the price. Much better than these guys charging $7500 over sticker.

Pluses and minuses just every where one can call home...

I don't get it either why the west coast guys pay way over sticker when you could buy one from the midwest and have it shipped back for cheaper. Surprised dealers are taking cash deposits on 2017s when there is no ETA on vehicles yet

I wouldn't, but some do. Supply, demand and desire.

Not surprised...

Just about to close on a very gently used Quicksand 16 from Florida. I was going to go for Cement Gray for 17. I'll very likely just get my deposit back rather than trying to make any profit from the vehicle. I suggest to just keep calling and visiting dealers and try to secure an early spot somewhere. Good luck.

Agreed. The great thing about the interwebs and shipping is you don't have to stick local to purchase a vehicle, and when the standard of living is that much higher on the coasts I just dont get why you wouldn't ship out from the midwest where this is a supply and not the high demand. As for the dealerships, I'm not surprised at all, they are making money up front and selling units before they hit the dealership that way when other ones do come in they can claim how quick they are going and ask OVER MSRP.

I'm not saying move here, but I think it would be worth a look to save a few thousand by having one ship from out of state with how high the demand is out by you.

My sales manager took a $500 check as deposit two weeks ago. The check was stapled to a file folder. He wrote my color choices down in order of preference. I was told I was the 5th person waiting and that it would be a 3-4 month wait, possibly six months as I am the 5th person "in line." Large volume dealership here, no pricing available.

My dealer did the same. But every time I followed up with them the eta was pushed back. Initially placed the deposit beginning of Sept and they said eta would be late December. Now the earliest delivery is looking like Feb-March. So, since I didnt feel like waiting that long, I told them to forget the whole 17' TRD Pro thing and sell me the next inbound Trail Prem. So now have a 16' White Trail Prem that should be coming in next week.

This is what I was worried about. I don't think my wife's CX-7 has another winter left in it and I was hoping to get the TRD Pro in by January like the dealer said they were going to.

Unfortunately, I am not planning on seeing my TRDP until march or later. It has been crickets from the guy I am working with. I am going to bite the bullet and wait. That cement is too sexy to ditch out on IMO.

I understand not wanting to wait but I can tell you the PROs are going to be worth more 3-10 years from now than a Trail. If that's not a consideration then I wouldn't worry about it.

I havent been on in a long time but im taking my trd pro in for one year service tomorrow. Has anything been resolved about the clunk in cold weather? I have the clunk.

For those thinking of putting a deposit down or that they will get to option out a TRD Pro.

From my experience talking to all the dealers in the golf state region (Georgia, Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi) you can't special order extras. The options that come on the TRD pro are determined by region (if I'm wrong then my apologies but this was my experience). As to putting down a deposit all it does is show that you want the vehicle but it won't mean the dealership will get one allotted to their store. Toyota HQs determines what colors the dealers get and what dealerships actually get TRDs. At the time of my purchase I could not find a pro in my region so I ordered it from El Paso Texas and had it shipped to my house through a private company. Still got it at pretty much MSRP including shipping. Just wanted to throw some stuff I learned out there for those looking.

On a different note, the dealership I got mine from gets quite a few pros each year and won't try and scalp you with price. The dealership is FOX toyota in El Paso. If any of you want the contact for my salesmen shoot me a pm. His a really good guy and easy to work with.

Here you go guys. All you need to know near the end of the thread.
New shocks are awesome. Better in the warm, hot or cold. Anyone with the new shocks feel differently?? Seriously, to me, a huge improvement.

Led light bars for sale!!!!!!!!

I'm selling 3 awesome LED light bars. The 40 inch has been on my GOBI rack for less than a year and I never installed the two 6 inch ones, so those are brand new. The brand is SPEC OPS, and I ordered them after seeing how fantastic they worked on a friend's rig. Now, there isn't much info about this company online. Seems to be a small outfit, but the 40 inch light bar has been fantastic and super bright. Never had a single issue what so ever. The only reason I'm selling them is because my girlfriend surprised me and got me a bunch of RIDIGS.

I paid $480.00 for the 40 inch (it probably has less than 1 hour of ON time)

I paid $180.00 for two 6 inch bars (brand new. never installed)

make me a reasonable offer!!!!
