4runner TRD Pro

The dealership is not losing money. They are crushing it in profits for every trd they sell for msrp but aren't getting true value. If i was a gm of a dealer I would markup every trd and it would sell eventually sell. By marking it up to a value that some people will pay, they also will get people in the door who won't pay over sticker but might buy another 4 runner instead. I saw this on saturday. Someone else came to the dealer to buy the trd i got and even though they were pissed it sold they bought an sr5 and left in their new sr5 right before me.

Honestly, if they knew what it took to get the TRD Pro I'm sure they'd really be pissed. Sounds like that guy checked the Toyota website and saw the TRD Pro listed on the site and just hoped the local toyota dealer had whatever he wanted.

Glad to hear more cases of folks confirming the value of these things. I'm in love with the cement gray. However, I could see how Barcelona Red could really rock the look too! I'd take that over Inferno Orange.

Please do be aware that dealerships...actually I'm going to be broader on this, let's say all sales people, are not exactly known to be the most honest people in our society. They will do whatever and say whatever to keep you thinking that their products are hot stuff.

I wouldn't say all sales people. I agree there are some. But the industry has changed a lot, especially with the amount of information now available to consumers. We, consumers, are (or should be) more educated and prepared going in to buy a vehicle than we were. The prevalent dishonest tactics once used have become more of a liability than a path towards guaranteed profit.

However, they are a business and they are there to make a profit. Can't really blame that. How they make a profit is up to us to decide with our wallets what is allowable/acceptable.

Which CO dealership is marking up Pros that much? The only 4Runners I have seen with that type of price increase are the dealership-built Pros (Toytec lift, 33s, Pro badging, etc).

The first trd i pro i looked at was the inferno when it was new. I loved the 4runner but i personally couldn't get over the fact it was orange. I kept looking. I didn't like white and i almost pulled the trigger on a black one but i just couldn't pull the trigger since i never spent that much on a vehicle before. Eventually the next year i got quicksand which i don't regret. I been looking for a trd for my wife and i really wanted a cement but she didn't like the color so barcelona red was picked. She's only had it for a couple days but if someone wants a pro that pops barcelona red should be the choice. It's the same color as the corolla but it pops!

People need to protect themselves. The come at you with how much the payment will be and when i ask how much the sales price is or how much is the money factor they wouldn't tell me when i was lurking at a couple dealers. I went to one dealer last week and went straight to the gm and the guy running all the numbers behind the big dealer desk and the gm told me he woule sell me a cement trd he was getting soon for 2k over msrp. I asked to run those numbers on a lease with tier 1 credit and the other manager gave me a sheet with bs numbers of over 1,000 a month when it should have been in the 600's. Protect and educate yourselves before you do battle with these dealers.

While I agree with some of what you say, I still believe the dishonest tactics are there. Some still use old tactics, others just change their tactics. Truecar.com ring a bell? You showed a perfect example, a $10,000 market adjustment. Ask them how they arrived at such an even number for their honest market adjustment.

is there any way to track a pro without calling the dealership? i was told mine would be arriving at the port tomorrow but i have the VIN and would like to be able to know when it gets close to getting on a truck to head my way. despite my requests i have a feeling the next time i hear from the dealer it will be sitting on the lot waiting for me to pick up and i want to be there before that point to ensure it doesnt get drilled with a front plate bracket

That's easy. Dealers charge what the market is willing to pay. Seriously. Where I live nobody would pay more than MSRP. Apparently in Cali and other places the DEMAND is high enough to justify the market adjustment.

Is it legal? You bet.
Is it moral or ethical? Everyone has differing views on that.

The only way to "fix" this is for consumers to quit paying those prices. Let a TRD PRO set on the lot 90 days and see what happens to the "adjusted market price." It will go away, trust me.

Unfortunately, as the above hundreds of posts will prove, people just like to ***** about the prices but are more than willing to pay them. You want proof? Dealers are asking (and apparently still getting) the market adjusted price. So, until you guys quit paying the absurd price (up to $20K above what a TRD Off Road costs(!)) the dealers are going to just keep milking the fanboys.

Econ101 guys. Supply and demand.

Dude. Just call them and tell them. Document it and, if they screw up and drill, have them replace the front piece of plastic they drilled. Easy.

In my mind, the market is broader than just the dealerships in a state/region. Thus, it leads me to believe that those who are price gouging above the manufacturer's suggested retail price are not displaying honest business practices. Sure, there's supply and demand. Call me old-fashioned, but I think price gouging is dishonest and unethical.

Buyers and sellers are both pigs, that's the truth of the world. Everyone looks for the best deal. If it's buying a house, a car or a tv. People no matter what will want the cheapest price and a seller will want to turn a profit.

Finally, after 26 days sitting 10 miles from me in port, it's processing day! Should be at the dealer any day after that. That is if it doesn't take a week to put it on a truck and drive it across town to the dealer. Been a long 4 month wait. As far as pricing here in Oregon, I haven't seen anyone charging any more or any less than msrp. If I were to back out on mine it would be sold that day. There are pretty ,ugh none unaccounted for. And I ran the gamut with almost every dealer until I found one allotted but unclaimed. I actually backed out on a cement and passed on two whites for red.

Guys it is afterall MSRP "Manuafacturers Suggested Retail Price". I for one would not pay over MSRP for this or any other car, But just like we demand invoice pricing on some cars, when a dealer who is in business for profit asks more than MSRP on a car in high demand and people are willing to pay it, then can you really blame the dealer?
This will be the second car in my life of about 40 purchases that I have paid MSRP, It kills me but I want one exactly the way I ordered it. The first one was a a BMW 1M coupe which was limited to only 740 brought to the US and I paid MSRP for the exact car I ordered. Was it worth it? Yes, Was it still painful? Yes. I dont think the TRDP will go up in value like the 1M did after purchase but hey it's a truck. Who really gives a shit. Its only money and you can't take it with you.

I also had one dealer offer to make a off road premium a pro to get a sale. I looked at him like he was crazy and when I said not a chance he looked at me like I was crazy. Same truck, yes, same resale value I doubt it. Especially when the vin doesn't match the trim. plus I'm not a big fan of making it something it's not just to say I have something that it is not.

Repeating the same thing doesn't make you anymore right. It's business, it's legal, and most (included the word most as I am sure there is a person on this site that will claim they were blindsided) times transparent.

Think about when you go to sell your 4Runner. Will you feel dishonest and unethical selling it with only a modest loss due to the wonderful resale of these vehicles?
