4runner TRD Pro

So I'm looking to upgrade the audio. Pretty much the bare minimum to elevate the sound to a respectable level, esp. on the lows. Anyone have experience with:

Focal IS 690TOY Speakers
Rockford Fosgate Sub/Amp Enclosure PS-8

Let me know what you end up doing with your stereo - I def want to upgrade this a bit....pretty bad factory sound.

What's everyone's thoughts on using a broker to track down one of these?

I'm not in a huge hurry to land one, but I'm wondering, do I have a better chance of a) actually getting one without spending untold hours chasing it and b) getting a decent price?

I was fed up after a few months of looking so I finally went the broker route. My guy found me what I wanted in literally 1 day. I paid $500 to him... worth it for all the headache I avoided.

I use 87. I've always used 87 in all of my 4Runners. Toyota designs their engines to run on pretty much the crappiest gas you can put in them. Watch videos of guys out driving in 3rd world countries. 9x outta 10 they are in a Toyota truck. Same engines as ours minus half the emission junk. I read about this years ago and basically it's your money if you wanna buy premium, but it's not doing much for you.

Funny - I have a Honda Ruckus scooter and I used to put 91 in that...thinking it was good for it and hey, only a few cents more. I noticed it ran WORSE and finally asked a scooter repair guy. He told me that those engines are set up to run on lower octane so they actually run more efficiently with the 87. I switched to 87 and boom...way faster. Yea I ride a scooter. Whatevs

Last question on the fuel topic : if you had to pick between 85 and 91 on an 87 fuel strategy - which one and why?

To anyone and everyone, when did your salesman notify you that it was on its way, being built, or whatever else? I know some of you guys had salesmen that didn't know till like a week before, but I'm trying to time it where I can sell my vehicle rather than trading it in

Some salesmen are better than others, but if you placed an order, gave the dealer a deposit and they were able to order (allocation) the vehicle, it's about 3 months from start to finish. If/when the order is accepted, a VIN should become available. Once you have a VIN you can track the vehicle (build date, ship date, port arrival, port processing, ship to dealer) via "dealer daily". Your salesman can send you copies of dealer daily (ask them)...it will show you where the vehicle is in the process and estimated dates for the next step in the process. These trucks are well worth the wait. Good Luck!

they can track it using dealer daily. will they? from my experience no. after all its quite a bit of work to check a website for someone that is paying $40k+ for a car lol

i was in the same boat as you. ended up getting the dealer to give me the trade in price i wanted so i didn't have to deal with trying to time a sale.

Thanks for all of the help guys! It will be 5 weeks in a couple days since I placed my deposit. The dealership is pretty big and is one of the biggest in the state. I went ahead with the audio. It sounds amazing compared to the factory. Theres def room for it to improve but it has satisfied my desire to upgrade the audio (and put holes in my wallet)

Jan-13: Walked into dealer. He said he had a cement one coming with various options (that I didn't want), he said I couldn't change anything & that they get what they get in the Pro models. He said it would be in about Late February. He knocked off $1,000. I put down a deposit.
Jan-23: Vehicle production date
Feb-2: Boat left Japan
Feb-15: Boat arrived in Portland, OR
Mar-10: Scheduled date for added TRD options in port. Takes 6-8 hours/car
Mar-14: Date I was told car was worked on in port.
Mar-20: Loaded on truck
Mar-21: Arrived in Montana
Mar-22: I purchased. I really like it. Haven't bought a new car since 1987 (also a 4-Runner). It is still running good, but is showing its age.

I like the rubber floor mats, but am indifferent to the rest of the options. The remote start seems silly - I can't imagine using it.

The only complication was that somehow the VIN number changed sometime between January & March, this made me wonder what was going on, but it was a non-issue. It was just over 2-months from start to finish. Most of the above information is from Toyota (Portland) e-mails that the Dealer forwarded to me in late Feb/March when I was asking where the car was.

Thanks for this info. My vehicle was built this week, so I'm probably still 2 months away. Out of curiosity, what areas of the vehicle are covered by the paint protection film? How noticeable is the film on the cement? I'm debating on having the Toyota PPF film, or taking it to get 3m or xpel ultimate once it gets here. Thanks for your help!

First VIN is always a dummy VIN or just a placeholder. The actual VIN the truck gets doesn't come until towards then end of its production lifecycle.

The film covers the front 4-8 inches (varies) of the hood & the front fenders to about where the fender wells flatten out on top. It isn't very noticeable - I did not notice it until you asked the question - but I was also avoiding looking at it because it was an option I didn't want. I tend to keep my cars a long time & it seems likely that the paint will weather differently where the liner is(nt). I also don't care so much about rock chips. I would prefer to not have any film at all, but I have to say it doesn't look bad. I have also heard good things about the factory applied coatings.

Yes, its an option that can be installed at port. I think it starts around $399.

I would get Xpel done to the car, i think toyota PPF film only cover half the hood. At least with your xpel install you can decide how much you want covered, but they usually do full panels, i had my whole hood done.

I got the film installed on mine. They do install it at the port. Along with the hood and around the top of the front fenders it also has about a 3" strip that runs along the rockers and up part of the rear fender. You really cant see it unless looking for it. If you look close it has a little semi-transparent sombrero logo on it on the corners.

I waited for 4 months to get the truck. Have been waiting 2 for the Gobi rack to haul my canoe and camping gear. Guessing Ill wait another 1 or two for that. We will see what comes first, the rack or license plates. Also, the precision LED premium interior light kit makes all of the difference. I highly recommend it.
