4runner TRD Pro

So I've been looking for a TRDP since Oct of last year. I turned down a quicksand last year because its just not my color. In the past week I've been told of two available. Ive had my name on 4 waiting lists. So i just put my deposit down on a cement Pro. It has the sliding cargo tray. I'm hearing differing opinions on it. Dealer said they will try to get it removed as the vehicle is just now being built. If not they said they would remove it for me. But i was reading that a lot of people are now saying they really like it. Either way i dont care that much. At least I'm finally getting one. Will be sad to turn in my taco but cant wait for the TRDP

I was told 2017 is the last year for the TRD PRO.

Post some sort of reference with these claims. Useless otherwise.

They will continue to have TRDPs until the next gen T4R. Then maybe a short hiatus until they launch that version pro. They are creating a brand, and the Pro line isn't going anywhere.

I'd prefer the sliding cargo tray, and I didn't get a chance to add one to my build. It's functional to pull out heavy gear, you can sit on it like a tailgate, there's some stirsfe under it, and it makes the cargo area flat when the second row is folded (nice if you sleep in the back while camping).

Some have gotten rid of theirs, others have added it second-hand. Either way, don't let it dictate buying/not buying this awesome vehicle.
After reading a bit more about the sliding rear cargo I think I'm going to keep it. Your advice is about the same I'm reading on the blogs. And I do plan on sleeping in the back camping, so I think its worth it. Thanks for the advice. And yes, $350 on a 45k truck isn't a make or break option. Just thought i didn't want it at first.

I have 2 pros, one with sliding cargo and one without. It's kinda cool having one but i was glad i didn't have one on my second pro. The only time i used the cargo tray was for help sliding out something heavy out. Everyone is different and u won't know whether u like it or not until you get it.

Seems a little silly since the (not so great) gas mileage of the TRD Pro is easy to lookup before buying it.

Although it probably wouldn't have swayed me away from buying it, but not having had a trail-capable vehicle like the TRDP before I was under the assumption it would be getting MPGs like the TEP. I read up on the TRDP on this forum (of course!) but neglected to single in on the MPG. Had I known, it may have given me pause but I would gone with it anyway.

So the story is that I went to a local NYC dealership back in January to leave a deposit for a Cement TRDP - I rather not say which dealer because the sales guy is a great guy. When I left the deposit they said it should take 6-8 weeks and we agreed on the price of $41,500 which included all weather mats, delivery and doc fees (but excluding taxes). He called me late March and said Toyota could not fulfill the order for approx. 6-8 months. At this point I requested a refund on my deposit and decided if I really wanted this car I had to start a more proactive search. I had read on this forum that most people searched on autotrader and cars.com to find which dealers had them in stock. The thing about these listings are that they are most likely 99% sold or way above MSRP. But I did a search anyways and decided to try my luck on maybe someone backed out on buying. I stuck with a range of dealerships 500 miles from NYC.

I called a dealer near Boston, Pittsburgh and Washington D.C. as well as a few I can't remember. The dealer near Boston had one in stock but deposit was already put and considered sold. They had also sold another TRDP in February but the order on that car was made in late 2016. They said may be able to locate one in 4-6 weeks but no guarantee on that time range. The dealer in Pittsburgh had an allocation coming in 8 weeks with no one leaving a deposit but had over $1000 in additional add-ons. The D.C. dealer had one in port awaiting delivery but was asking for MSRP + $8,000 for a total of over $52,000.

I had really good feeling about the dealer near Boston and decided to roll the dice with that dealer - Bristol Toyota. I put down a deposit of $1,000 with Sharon Jorde at Bristol on March 22nd and before I knew it, she called me on April 3rd and told me they got the car for me! I cannot say enough great things about Sharon and Bristol Toyota. It took less than 3 weeks for her to find me the car. So I drove up to Bristol early yesterday morning and got the car back in my driveway by mid afternoon. The story was they traded a pick-up truck (not sure if Tacoma or Tundra) to another dealership in the metro-Boston area for the Cement TRD Pro cause the original buyer changed his mind on the 4Runner.

I can't say if Sharon or Bristol Toyota can get another TRDP but I can say that they are a pleasure to deal with and would definitely consider my next Toyota purchase with them even if they are over 200 miles away from me.

Moral of this story is being at the right place at the right time, and also a ton of searching,. I guess i lucked out when i found my Cement at MSRP, :cheer2: after searching for a day in early march. Now lets see some pics of your cement pro.

Yea, everyone's experience will be different. TRDP's are not impossible to find but Toyota is keeping the supply low. They are definitely out there somewhere. I do feel like if you want it, to buy it sooner than later before all the allocation is sold out everywhere or else you may need to wait for 2018 models.

Does anyone else have a TRDP that left from Japan on the 4/7 shipment? Hopefully I'm within a month of delivery now that it's in transit.

On the subject of gas mileage, I have been getting right at 17.0. When I bought the truck I turned the eco light off right off the bat. The last fill up I turned it back on and have been trying to use it, especially at stoplights etc and my mpg has increased to 19.2 over a half tank. Since my 94' only gets around 15 in town and has a tank that holds 9 less gallons even the 17 was a big improvement.

On a side note, my better half was in Texas this weekend and went to a Ranger game. Toyota had a deal set up in the stadium and there was a cement trdp on display. Not sure of the dealer or the status of it but for anyone looking I would guess if they had it out on display it's not pre-sold. So check out the Dallas/Fort Worth area, you may get lucky.

I saw a Barcelona Red TRD Pro at the Long Beach Grand Prix this weekend. Looks better in person, but still happy I went with Cement.

No dude I am not crying about anything. Its just a Toyota 4runner and spending $45k on a vehicle is not a big deal in 2017.

Obviously Toyota is going for "unique" colors with inferno Halloween orange and Desert storm military sand and telephone utility truck cement on the TRDP series of vehicles.

You sound like a Toyota fanboy and you have every right to defend the cement color. :bravo:

I own a 2016 Jeep Hardrock Rubicon and Jeep also has some weird colors that Jeep owners talk about.

All the people who have purchased a cement know they have a killer vehicle with a unique color.

So there we have it, a jeep creep, trolling on a toyota forum. Post up a pick of your softrock....lol, you are a wannabe!

Thanks for the heads up. I thought it was wishful thinking as well, but maybe I will get lucky and it will be the first one off of the boat!

NICE!! I'm still waiting!!

How did some people get the dealer to shave a few bucks off on the TRD Pro? I tried to get $500 off and offered to pay all cash, they said No. I asked if they would let me put $10,000 instead of $5,000 on credit card so I could at least get more points, they said No. I'm going to buy it whether they budge on the price or not, but just curious if anyone has any other ideas? Negotiating gurus, chime in please.

i'm paying msrp. realized very quickly that the amount of work required to get what i wanted in the time frame i wanted was going to require paying sticker. i was able to get doc fee taken off as well as an awesome trade in price plus a trade in bonus. considering what i would have sold the car for privately, i sort of feel like i ended up with the pro at roughly $2500 off msrp. thats how i sleep at night knowing i'm paying full price for a new toyota lol
