4runner v. Jeep

Do you have high blood pressure? LOL. You brought up the topic of which vehicle you think would make the best rock crawler. You just don't like it that I don't agree with you. And still you haven't even given one reason why the GC would be better - except that people do it. People lift Rav4s too, doesn't mak it right though. I have given several reasons now why the 4runner would be better. So.. why?

You're an idiot. :nono:

Here is what I said:

So what about a GC would you say is a bad choice for rock crawling? Thousands of others seem to like the idea judging by how many I've seen. Damn sure better than a 4runner and that's what we're comparing it to in this thread, isn't it?

That doesn't mean I said it's the best rock crawler/offroad vehicle in the world. :nono:

Are you saying an IFS 4Runner would be a better choice for off-road/rock crawling than a solid axle Grand Cherokee? Remember, that's what this thread is about(comparing the two vehicles). Stay on topic or go start a new thread if you want to compare the best rock crawler or the best vehicles in 2011. :bash:

You're an idiot. :nono:

Great, violate the rules and get banned. If you'd take a unibody over a body-on-frame then you obviously don't know jack crap about rock crawling and now you have to back peddle to try not to look stupid. You still can't seem to muster up even 1 reason why the GC would make a better crawler than a 4runner (as opposed to the best in the world like you're now trying to switch the coversation to). You're out of your element and it's painfully obvious.

That doesn't mean I said it's the best rock crawler/offroad vehicle in the world. :nono:

No, I just want one reason why you said it's better than a 4runner. Back up your claims or expect to get owned.

Are you saying an IFS 4Runner would be a better choice for off-road/rock crawling than a solid axle Grand Cherokee?

Yes, because an IFS can be swapped out, but you can't turn a unibody into a frame.

Remember, that's what this thread is about(comparing the two vehicles). Stay on topic or go start a new thread if you want to compare the best rock crawler or the best vehicles in 2011. :bash:

I'm talking about these 2 vehicles. I said earlier that if you said the Wrangler is a better crawler than you wouldn't have an argument. You have really bad reading comprehension, not to mention you're obviously not an avid rock crawler. Maybe you should get some more info off the GC forums and come back with an better agrument and that one reason I've been asking for the last hour or so - Why would an '08 GC make a better crawler than an '08 4runner?

I know people make crawlers out of GCs, I just think it's hilarious that you're backing them up and saying it's a good idea and a better platform than the 4runner, but you have no reasons why. I think this is entertaining as hell.

Umm....did you miss the part about the solid axle? That was a pretty damn good reason, but you failed to comprehend it.

Owned?? Wow, how old are you?

Yes, because an IFS can be swapped out, but you can't turn a unibody into a frame.
I don't remember the guy talking about axle swaps to make one vehicle better than the other. :bash:

And you say I have bad reading comprehension??? Hahaha, that's rich.

I've given one, but besides your frame argument you haven't given any as to why you say the 4Runner is better, but you claim to have proven beyond a reasonable doubt that it is.

I stated that I would pick the Grand Cherokee if it's going to be mostly for off-road. You acted like it's unheard of to take a Grand Cherokee off-road or on the rocks. I proved you wrong. You went on to compare other UNRELATED vehicles.

I stated the solid axle on the Cherokee would be my MAIN reason for picking it. The only thing you did was bash the Grand Cherokee for having a unibody. I read all of your posts and I can't find one single thing you mentioned as a positive about the 4Runner other than the frame, but you act like you've proven beyond a reasonable doubt that you're choice is better. :nono:

The Grand Cherokee is priced cheaper
The Grand Cherokee has a solid front axle
The Grand Cherokee has more power
The Grand Cherokee has a higher crawl ratio

You're an idiot. :nono:

Name calling is a last resort when you know you've lost an argument. It's called Ad Hominem.

If you'd take an IFS over a solid axle then you obviously don't know jack crap about rock crawling and now you have to back peddle to try not to look stupid. :trophy:

Where did I say I would take an IFS over a solid axle? I said an IFS can be switched, but a unibody can't. You have to make up things to back up your statements.

Umm....did you miss the part about the solid axle? That was a pretty damn good reason, but you failed to comprehend it.

Neither of the vehicles we are talking about have solid front axles. But you keep trying to switch to earlier models of the GC to try to make a point that doesn't support the original claim you made. If we are comparing other years, there are solid axle 4runners also.

Owned?? Wow, how old are you?

Again, using Ad Hominem to try to misdirect attention to try to win an argument, pathetic.

I don't remember the guy talking about axle swaps to make one vehicle better than the other. :bash:

You asked a specific (off topic) question about an IFS 4runner compared to a solid axle GC (not an '08 against an '08 like you keep switching back and forth between) and I answered it. You are comparing 2 vehicles from different eras, but you try to bash me for answering your question.

And you say I have bad reading comprehension??? Hahaha, that's rich.

Yes, yes it is.

I've given one, but besides your frame argument you haven't given any as to why you say the 4Runner is better, but you claim to have proven beyond a reasonable doubt that it is.

Up until now, a solid axle was the reason you gave which they don't have in the years we are comparing. We are talking about '08s, right? Or does that only apply to your arguments when it works out for you? Body-on-frame construction was the reason I gave, because it's an integral part of a rock crawler. Axles and all that other stuff can be switched, but not the fact it's a unibody. It will be that way forever and it makes for a bad platform to make a crawler out of. Just because people do it doesn't mean it's good.

I stated that I would pick the Grand Cherokee if it's going to be mostly for off-road. You acted like it's unheard of to take a Grand Cherokee off-road or on the rocks. I proved you wrong. You went on to compare other UNRELATED vehicles.

No, you stated..
"If I was looking for an off-road only [not mostly like you changed it to above], rock crawler type vehicle I'd go with the GC. Anything else I'd go with the 4Runner."

You haven't proved a thing. You just name call when you get flustered. I didn't "act" anything, I stated facts that set the 4runner apart from the GC as a crawler.

You are comparing unrealted vehicles. I said: "You can take a 4runner from any gen and make it into a great crawler. This includes the 4th gens which is what we are comparing.

I stated the solid axle on the Cherokee would be my MAIN reason for picking it.

Again, you are switching to an earlier model of GC and comparing it to a later model 4runner. There are solid axle 4runners too, but you're purposely not comparing those to the early GCs. But since you took us there.. they both have solid axles in the early models, but the body-on-frame construction of the 4runner trumps the GC as a crawler.

The only thing you did was bash the Grand Cherokee for having a unibody. I read all of your posts and I can't find one single thing you mentioned as a positive about the 4Runner other than the frame, but you act like you've proven beyond a reasonable doubt that you're choice is better. :nono:

Well, the body-on-frame is a big issue. It's what sets the 2 vehicles apart. The rest is pretty comparable so I didn't mention all the items that are basically equal.

The Grand Cherokee is priced cheaper
Right, because the quality and reliability aren't there like a 4runner (which I mentioned on the 1st page before you joined the discussion).
The Grand Cherokee has a solid front axle
So does the 4runner, but we're not comparing the older models.
The Grand Cherokee has more power
Not that that's a big issue for crawling, plenty of crawlers have 4 bangers and do just fine. Plus we have superchargers available and the engines in the 4th gens (since that's what we're comparing) aren't weak by any means. Many 4th gens have a V8 also.
The Grand Cherokee has a higher crawl ratio
You mean a lower crawl ratio? LOL. The higher the #s, the lower the ratio. You are showing your knowledge.

Do those outweigh a frame and 10xs better reliability for you?

No, I just know a little more about crawling than you do and I have the ability to back up my statements without being insulting.

Let it go already. :nono:

If I'm reading this right(my reading comprehension sucks, right?), the only thing that makes a 4Runner better for "off-road only" is the frame? I'm not seeing the other major factors you listed. Forgive me for not being as smart as you. Please, try not to talk down on me for it. :withstupid:

You've edited your post so many times I'm not sure what's going on with it anymore.

Did you come over here from the Heep forum? First off, if you keep saying that he is comparing a 2008 4runner and GC then the 2008 GC is IFS'ed as well.

If I may chime in here it seems that both of you are just arguing that "so and so truck is better because thats my opinion." If someone was reading this and trying to learn some pros and cons of the two vehicles they would learn absolutely nothing about them. Brian, if you know a ton about rock crawling then just end the argument by throwing down some facts about the 4runner that make it great for crawling... that would also benefit the thread creator!

Rock crawling is not my thing. I can make it over really nasty terrain with proper support gear, then drive hundreds of miles home after that. Maybe I just don't get it. Rock crawlers, mall crawlers... both seem to be an ego driven passtime and an expensive one at that.

As much as I chuckle at the bickering, why are y'all debating a rock crawler when the OP specifically stated that he wants a DD that can go off road?

For that purpose, the 4Runner is clearly superior due to the greater durability and reliability, but the OP will have to pay more for it.

Get something reliable and capable, and take it everywhere thats reasonable. You will have a much better time in life if you stop trying to keep up with the Jones or subjecting yourself to **** measuring contests.

We had a 04 Jeep GC. Traded it in and got a 08 4r limited. Not even a comparison. The 4r is a much nicer ride and more dependable. The jeep rides like a jeep and will require a whole lot more up keep than the 4r.

I'm going to chime in here, but as you read this understand I'm a Toyota fan who owns two Jeeps and two Toyotas.

I bought the 2011 Grand Cherokee for my wife. It's the "step up" Laredo with the V8 and leather all around. We test drove the new 4Runner and the 11 GC. It would be hard for even a loyal Toyota person like myself to tell you the 5th gen has anything over the 11GC. I'm not referring to longevity as we'll have to see if Chrysler really made improvements.

Interior: The GC is pretty hot with the charcoal wood and leather seats. Chrome trim all around and some pretty nifty lighting. The new 4R felt very cheap and my 4th gen didn't hold a candle to it.

Engine: Not fair here to compare a Hemi V8 to a noisy overworked V6. So I will compare my 06 4R V8 to the Hemi. Hemi has SERIOUS grunt. The Toyota felt much faster and smoother. It depends what you like here. My wife loves the V8 feel of the V8. I have to say, my new GX470 is smoof. I don't know what to say here, I think for me, the Toyota V8 is nicer, but the Hemi is a lot of fun

Ride: In this order for smoothness... My GX470, Jeep GC, 06 4R V8, 5th gen. In this order for handling... 11GC, 4th gen, GX, 5th gen

Resale: Toyota wins. No, Lexus wins. A car is not an investment, don't kid yourself.

As for you turkey monkeys comparing the two for rock crawling, any base is perfect no matter what... if you have enough money. :lmao:
It's great banter though. There are many MANY types of wheeling other than dragging 20K+ worth of vehicle over rocks. Yeah I know, companies like Spider Poison Customs drag 150K worth of vehicle over rocks. We all don't poop Benjamins though. :spider:

Yeah i would have to say i would get the new GC over the new 4runner, but i wouldnt buy either because of the automatics :ybrick:

2008 GC had a solid front axle?? I don't think that is the case.

LOL ITT ppl take daily drivers and pretend their hardcore rock crawlers.

Jeeps suck

Toyota trucks dont

/thread

And you take this from experience? :infidel: Fj Cruiser having twisted bodies (even affecting door opening!) from the frame twisting is not good either....

Yeah i would have to say i would get the new GC over the new 4runner, but i wouldnt buy either because of the automatics :ybrick:

Yeah, John, we all know about your love for POS vehicles with "stellar" reliability records.... :hatsoff:

And remind me how much did those mods cost in the end?? Is it still reliable & durable? A frame or transmission is only design to handle so much...lets face it, the days of Toyota "overengineering" something way beyond stock specs is long gone....

But yeah, for me, b/w GC or 4runner, i would go with 4runner, esp. if you want a DD and a weekend off-roader.

I have to back you up here. I feel lazy in all but three of my rides. I miss shifting. I hope one day to get into some sort of manual sports car.

And this supports what I said, nuff money and anything is a rock crawler. Those axles are standing over 1K a piece and I BET that is very conservative. I LOVE your ride though, FANTASTIC piece of machinery.

Here is my wheeling junk. I like it old school. Can't agree with you on fvcking a Jeep tho. Shes never let me down.
