4Runner vs FJ

If we're talking strictly for off road, I'd have to say FJ. Perfect size, plus the inside is all rubber, just stick a hose in there and rinse it out.

The hose idea is a very bad one! I owned an FJ and frequented those forums. A few poor souls bought into the belief (from sales guys) you could hose out the interior and ended up with smelly mildew between the rubber and floor.

What about ease of use for car seat, there has to be pros & cons on both side of the fence for this.

Before buying a 4R, I test drove an FJ complete with two car seats and two kids (1.5 and 3 years old). It was the deal breaker for me - there simply was not room for us all. Width was ok, but length was the problem. Their legs were right agianst the back of my seat (i'm 5'11"). The 4R is much better in this regard. FJ was much cheaper too... Older kids would be easier, but they want you to keep kids in car seats for forever these days.

Thanks for all the replies, and sorry I didn't post this as a TJ replacement, or even mention it. Not much in the Delta gives me problems except for drainage ditches once in a while. I do like to go to AR often hints the name MountainClimber even if they are small mountains. The four doors and the extra room along with the turning radius is going a long ways here in the decision. However with the TJ and I'm sure it's the same with the FJ, there is this connection you have with all other owners. I don't think that connection is there as much because of all the soccer moms driving them. This may not be the case for I will have to lift it and place gaurds around it, I have been known to shove a cart out of my way with the front of my vehicle. Plastic and metal gaurds do prevent alot of scratches. With a modified 4Runner the connection may still be there.

Has anyone heard about Toyota comming out with a 4Door FJ? That I guess is what I want.

Good luck! :hatsoff:

I like this about the FJ that I dont have on the 4R

All rubber floor interior in the cargo area...I wish the 4R had that option.

That was one thing that i wish the 2010 TE had...all rubber floor & cargo. That would go along with the off-road theme and the water resistant fabric. I love that about my father's Honda Element...very cool to carry dirty stuff.

I have both a 2015 4Runner SR5P and an 07 FJ Cruiser. The FJ cruiser is definitely more capable. I have taken both out off roading.. the wife uses the 4Runner for home health work now.. but the FJ also has rear diff lockers. Both have A trac and VSC off. 2010+ FJ models started offering crawl control like the off road T4R's. Oil changes are easier on the FJ Cruiser with the old single VVTi engine..
