4Runner vs. Tacoma CV Axles

Hey everyone,

I did a manual hub conversion on my 4Runner and am running OEM Tacoma non-ADD CV axles. The outer joints are clearly different to let them work with the Aisin hubs. The inner joints are similar enough to allow the non-ADD axles to work fine in my ADD diff.

Now I am trying to install a diff with a Detroit TrueTrac in it and there are fitment issues. It seems that length of the splines are shorter on the Tacoma axles, based on a limited set of pictures I have seen.

I'm trying to determine now if it would be possible for an ADD inner joint (the three-roller mechanism and the end) to be grafter onto my non-ADD shafts in place of the original inner joint. Do you think this will be possible? Will the splines on the center shaft accept the ADD joint?

Thanks

What exactly is the fitment issue? Tough to get the splines in? The guts of the 7.5 clamshell front are the same regardless of whether it is a 4runner or Tacoma and auto or manual hub. TrueTrac part # is same...

Yes, the CV end doesn't plug all the way in.

Mostly I'm looking to confirm if the inner joint end of an ADD axle will fit on a non-ADD axle.

The axle shaft diameters are different.

Still confused by this one. So the driver side is the only issue?

Yes, I retained ADD so the stub shaft is what interfaces with the TT carrier. It plugs in perfectly fine.

The axle shaft diameters are different but is that also the case for the splined ends? I am seeing that ORS sells a manual hub conversion kit that seems to involve installing your original ADD inner joint onto a new non-ADD CV (sold without the inner joint)

Which one is the non-ADD? I know - the picture gives away too much.

Covered in Prussian blue to try to find the fitment issues but here's what mine looked like. I guess it needs to look like the bottom on in your picture.

I just got done measuring 4 different CV axles - 2 OEM (1 4runner/1 non-ADD Taco) and 2 Autozone spares (1 4runner/1 non-ADD Taco. The Inner CV spline lengths and diameters are the same. In the pic the top is a non-ADD Autozone and the bottom is an OEM 4runner/ADD

Wish I was closer - love trying to figure this stuff out.
