I typically wave to other 4runners around here but have gotten maybe one wave back. Almost as many waves as I've had when I had my FJ.

Around here I can get a wave from anybody in a first gen. Other gens will sometimes wave if they're modded. Unless I'm in the wife's stock 3rd gen, then they just look at me funny.
