Wassup,
I think the people of Hawaii just know the value that a 4R has, old and new. I agree there are many toyotas on Hawaii's roads.
Local people love to lift their trucks especially the 1st and 2nd generation. Because they are so easy and inexpensive to lift, I think that is why so many people have them. Also because the 4R is more narrow than a full size truck, they can go on more trails (limited amount of trails/4x4 areas in HI, so the more narrow the truck = more areas to play).
Places to 4x4:
Unfortunately, not too many places to go without getting in trouble.
Alan Davis (AD's) in between Makapuu & Sandy Beach (all sand) is fun.
Mokuleia used to have lots of open space, but has recently been barracaded off =(
Kapaa Quarry Road has some trails along with Waikane stream.
Kahuku motorcross is also a good (although I never been here).
Where did you move from? Where do you live now?
All I ask is that you be respectful to our aina (land). Dont litter. What ever you take into a trail you bring out.....Everything. Dont disturb any cultural/historical sites.....dont even go near them.
Wheeling is different here in the islands because we cherish our land so much. It is not like the states where there are miles and miles of open space. Here, we have limited to minimal open space. Have fun, but be pono (righteous) in your actions.
