4th gear pop out

my 87 4runner vvith 392k miles on it, vvhile getting back from a 2500 mile round trip, fourth gear pops out and grinds hen I try to put it back in gear, only does it in fourth.
the other gears have a vvhine. before the trip I changed the trans oil and motor oil.
do I need a ne tranz?

I think you need a new keyboard with your new transmission. If you already know your fluid level is good then you either need to rebuild your current transmission or replace it.

That sucks! Keep your electronics out of the drink.

check the shifter boot. make sure there isn't anything in behind it that is putting pressure, or preventing it from fully engaging the gear.

I have seen this many times over the years.

I as playing vvith the boot vvhile going dovvn the highvvay just before it started happening, ill check that out.
