(4th Gen) 235/85/16 has anyone considered them?

I'm well aware most forth gens are running 17" or 18" wheels, but has anyone running the 16" ever considered 235/85/16's?

If you have pics please post them.

Personally, I wouldn't do it as the stock tire width is 265, so to me going down to such a narrow, yet ridiculously tall tire doesn't make sense. I thought the BFG KM2 Jeep Rubicon take-offs that everybody runs are narrow and tall. These are even more.

Also, this tire size is usually for dualie trucks.

I'm not concerned about the width of the tire, it'll still fit a rim without issue. As for the BFG km2's from the jeeps. I believe they are a 255/70/17 which is not much narrower or taller than stock on our 4runners.

I currently run a 285/75/16 but have been considering trying a narrower tire to save a little on fuel and recoup some loss of power.

Although this tire size is common for dualies and trailers it's also common on some older half tons.

Many of prefer narrower tires. I have been very happy with my 255's. I looked at 235's but I didn't find a tread in the size I wanted.

I'm actually considering 235/80 on my stock 17 inch wheels. Reason being is A) fuel economy and B) improved traction. Because of contact pressure, narrow tires actually bite harder on lots of surfaces.

The drawback is that most of these tires are load range E which is overkill for a midsize truck. They'll be heavier than a P or LT C tire.

I'm running D rated tires right now so an E wouldnt be to much of a stretch for me.

I really need to see what this would potentially look like. I like the way my current size fills the wheel wells but have a hard time imagining the 285 down to a 235.

The only issue with running on 16's is going to be your brake calipers. I see you have an SR5, which shouldn't be an issue, but the Limited might have the optional Sport Calipers which many members have not made work with 16's.

Absolutely i'm running 16's now. They are 1st gen Tundra rims with 1.25" wheel spacers.

Well these days I'm a big fan of the "hybrid" tires. I rocked a set of Duratracs on my last Wrangler and they were pretty awesome I have to admit. Extremely over priced, but awesome DD/weekend toy tires.

I have 255's and since they are considered a "skinny" tire but realistically they are as wide or wider than 265's. I just got a loss of 1mpg. Nothing significant.

Looks wise I would not go with 235's.

just do a google search for 235/85 on 4runner and then click the "images" tab and you'll see all kinds of pics. personally I don't think they look that bad. Usually they have around 7.5" of tread width, and the factory wheels are 7.5" so 235s actually would be perfect as far as fit goes.
