hot off the press! first 4runner floor mat recall ?

"Approximately 603,000 model year 2003 through 2009 Toyota 4Runner SUVs, approximately 17,000 model year 2008 through 2011 Lexus LX 570 SUVS and approximately 761,000 model year 2006 through 2010 RAV4's are being added to that recall."

Just called my dealer and the service writer said while they are recalled, they don't have the written procedure yet, not sure if they are using the same process as the Tundras or not. He said its not only floor mats, but a modification to the gas pedal bracket.

They should just give me the $200 I spent on my weathertech floormats after wearing through 2 sets of their all weather floormats. What a freakin rip off those things were

Very lame as I have gone thru my drivers side floor mat and the rest of them are like new. Also I love my sporty pedals. I'm not giving those up. The floor mats have the little hole to secure the floor mat to the floor. People are to blame of this. Not a stupid secured mat.

i agree, ive had no problems with the stock floor mat.

i actually have the husky floor liners, but every now and then when i take them out to wash, when i go to put them back in, they get stuck on top of the gas pedal if im not careful.

On my wifes 2010 Camry they cut off and rounded the bottom of the gas pedal to allow more room between that and the floor. I have a feeling they'll want to do the same with the 4 Runner. They won't be touching mine. It's a shame that the driver is no longer responsible for what they do. Gotta always blame it on someone else :violin:

On my wifes 2010 Camry they cut off and rounded the bottom of the gas pedal to allow more room between that and the floor. I have a feeling they'll want to do the same with the 4 Runner. Agree...they are not touching my 4Runner.

I have Weathertech Liners...if some reason the pedal gets sticky, I'll slap it into neutral and come to a stop and THEn think of what I want to do next.

You didn't hear it from me... but there is a little TSB floating around in the TIS that accompanies these pedal recalls... it states if the customer is not happy with the repaired pedal that they can ask to have a new "updated" pedal installed.

Now I don't know if this applies to all the vehicles or just Corolla & Camry as that was when I first saw it. I will look for it this week at work...

But like I said... you didn't get it from me!

You didn't hear it from me... but there is a little TSB floating around in the TIS that accompanies these pedal recalls... it states if the customer is not happy with the repaired pedal that they can ask to have a new "updated" pedal installed.

Now I don't know if this applies to all the vehicles or just Corolla & Camry as that was when I first saw it. I will look for it this week at work...

Yeah it came out a little after teh first recalls started, I was like, "So basically we've spent the past month cutting these things when they coudl have just gotten a new one?" My service dept told me to shut up. lol

well the way i understand it, the pedal gets stuck under the mat, not the drivers foot. so the "unintended acceleration" may not be the drivers fault. i actually had it happen to my runner with a generic aftermarket mat. i just kicked the mat back with my heel. my real question is why is the pedal so close to the floor mat in the first place? seems like a couple centimeters of extra clearance would have been prudent from the factory on all these toyota models...

I think it all depends on how you position your foot and what's most comfortable.

My foot/toes has slipped off the gas on more than one occasion.

I don't like having to shift my foot when I'm applying the gas or brake. So I place my right heel directly in front the brake and when I apply the brake, my toes are pointed towards the steering column. When I apply the gas, I pivot my foot on the heel and my toes are pointed towards the transmission. Other backseat drivers have commented on why I lay my foot sideways when I drive. I'm all about efficiency (and maximum laziness).

I never owned a car that had floor hinge mounted gas pedal, but I'd imagine that would be uncomfortable for how I position my foot.

Luckily I've never had this problem and I have one of those cheap stick-on gas pedals from Walmart just to make the pedal wider. I've got a size 16 foot so I always pivot on my heel which is planted right around the brake pedal.

on my truck, i have the obx sport pedals on, the gas pedal is close to the factory interior mat, not the floor mat, i got about 1-5 mm of play on the right side by guessing, i dont see my pedal is going to get stuck, also the truck is 2007 built in japan if that matters.
