4th gen 4Runner Secrets?

This thread is awsome, I have scanned through most of it and learnt how to put the rear winodw up after years of not knowing.

I'm not sure if this was ever mentioned in here but if you partially remove the glove box (push the stop bumps in on the sides in allowing it to hang a little lower) behind it is an air filter for the in cabin ventilation. Its good to clean it once and a while and replace it every 3 or 4 years. Im thinkin that if not many people new about the hiddin cargo space just above it than even fewer will know about this.

i believe pushing it is "resume" not "reset", and you dont have to push on the brake and get that big jerk, you can just pull it in (i think its in) which is the cancel button, which doesnt turn it off, and it will slowly decelerate, then you can press resume to go back up to your speed. :fro:

Set/Deaccelerate is in the down directions
Resume/Accelerate is in the up direction
Cancel is toward the driver

You can either hold in the direction, or bump once up/down to increase/decrease your speed by 1 mph. 5 quick bumps up/down will speed up/slow down the car by 5mph.

With the cruise set, if the transmittion shifts to nuetral by user error, the cruise will disengage, preventing the engine from reving up and redlining. Once shifted back into drive, the cruise will still be on, assuming it was never canceled or turned off, and accelerate back to the set speed.

Tested this at a low speed. Does someone else want to see what happens when you shift into reverse?

5 clicks does equal 5 mph if you click slowly and give it a chance for the speet to catch up, but doesn't work if you click fast or are going really fast.

Try these guys for cheap and comparable replacements----> www.logical-source.com

Also if you do a lot of gravel driving, check the filter on a more regular basis.

I don't have much to add that's not already in here, other than I noticed today that the windshield washer fluid tank has a dipstick if you just grab that plastic piece and pull it out. Pretty neat.

Try these guys for cheap and comparable replacements----> Headlights, Taillights, Signal Lights and Mirrors for Less

Also if you do a lot of gravel driving, check the filter on a more regular basis.

Their engine air filters are priced at $1,200. a little high

I wonder why so many people think this. you can get a speeding ticket for going 71. why would you want to, anyways? I've found the sweet spot for max MPG's to be about 65.

It depends on your location, some places it's just 1 over but here in Arizona when they had speed cameras along the freeways you could go 10 over before it would trigger them to flash and take your photo and send you a ticket. Everyone going 80 MPH would slow down to 74- 75 when they came to a camera then speed back up again after going past it. I'm not sure what the limit for cop cars hiding along the side of the road with radar is though.

It's covered in the manual and also in this thread in detail. One thing I will emphasize is that you have to time it pretty much exactly 5 seconds. Also, it seems like it takes multiple tries for the programming to actually stick. I had created a thread yesterday because I couldn't get it to auto-lock when I hit 12mph. I had tried 5 to 10 times and would get the unlock to confirm that it accepted the programming change, but it wouldn't do what it was supposed to do. Well, last night I finally got it to work.

So I currently have it set to auto-lock when I hit 12mph. And it unlocks when I open the driver's door after turning the ignition off/pulling the key.

one day while preparing to get out of my 04 4runner... i noticed that the radio stayed on atfer the keys were removed from the ignition...( o how i love the simple things in life)... and ofcourse it stopped after i opened the door.....

Lucky you, but sadly for the rest of us, that's aftermarket wiring.

Actually this has nothing to do with aftermarket wiring... the stock headunits have power to the radio as well as power to the windows until a door has been opended once you turn off the ignition.

Edit: to be more acurate, you will have 12VDC supply to the entire vehicle until a door switch is opened causing a break in the circuit

Not sure if this falls within the same category or not but the 10 speaker JBL headunit offers individual sound setups for each mode entry. If I adjust bass, mid & treble on CD mode, once I switch to Aux, I'll have to make new adjustments, the previous settings do not carry over, I like this. Also, the last stock HU I owned with Aux IP always reset to the radio once the car was turned off, supper annoying after running into a store or something briefly. Our headunits stay set to Aux when the power is shut off... It's a nice feat to have.. trust me.
