4th gen 4Runner Secrets?

Found out the 4runner can program it's own key. Bought 2 blanks on ebay from a guy in china and walmart cut them free. Took me 2 minutes to program them and I saved $180.

a/c vent swith default change?

I have an '08 Sr5.
Is it possible to change the default position of the air vent
Switch between fresh air & recycled air?
Mine always goes to recycle when I start the vehicle regardless where it was set last time I drove the vehicle.

It is 'on purpose'. Some threads on this forum say wait a while until the car warms up and it will switch back to where you left it (outside air) when it is ready to.

I like the no hold starter feature where you just turn the key and the starter cranks automatically untill the engine starts.

here's a kicker...my 1989 Toyota 22re 5spd manual pickup had a "button" that when pressed would allow the engine to turn over even if the clutch was not pressed. just put in the key turn to acc, press the button and turn the key voila.... it was slick for back then to start a manual from outside standing up LOL!

JUST HAD TO BE SURE SHE WAS OUT OF GEAR FIRST!!!

here's a kicker...my 1989 Toyota 22re 5spd manual pickup had a "button" that when pressed would allow the engine to turn over even if the clutch was not pressed. just put in the key turn to acc, press the button and turn the key voila.... it was slick for back then to start a manual from outside standing up LOL!

If your talking about the Clutch Start Cancel button, my 98 Tacoma had this.

On '07 SR5 if you lock all the doors from the rear hatch keyhole, all the supervised power (dome, map, puddle) will shut down when you pull the key out. Handy if you left a CB radio or other accy on that's connected to the map light circuit. Normal timeout is 15-20 minutes. Speaking of which, the overhead cluster on an SR5 will fit a CB radio rather nicely. :becky:

When one of your turn signal lights go out it will give you rapid blinking when you turn them on.

That's most cars. The bulb still working blinks rapidly. It drives me crazy seeing that when a simple $6 or less bulb and 5min, if that, will fix it

As long as you get the right bulb. I picked some up that were the same bulb but different part number (clear vs amber) and they still hyper flashed. I use it has a slightly different resistance than the other bulbs do causing the hyper flash.

I was reading this thread last night and went to check the "secret" compartment out. (The dealer said the cabin air filter is located there!:nerd.

I opened it up and found some things:
A little med pack filled with bandaids, aspirin, mini-wipes, No-Doze, allergy pills,, etc. All WAY out of date. one was from 1990!
The second thing was a cigarette Y adapter - 1 to 2.
The third was a mini multi-tool! Pliers, blade, saw, and bottle opener/screw driver.

My nerdy yet handy contribution:

File folders and map books fit perfectly down the inboard side of the of the drivers seat, between the seat and the transmission tunnel. Pretty much perfect height for quick grabbing on the way out or reference while still in the truck.

Try it next time, slide a folder on the inboard sides of the driver and passenger seats.

Alarms

Can you take a quick photo of the system and red button you have? I think I have the same one too, and have been trying to figure out what it is. If you press the lock button twice, does your panic alarm go off?? Mine does...not that I like that though...

The differences in these little things are regional. For instance all the Toyota in the middle parts of the US comes from Gulf State Toyota. They added the alarms and pin stripes that everyone had to pay for. The even added a paint protection; VIN etched glass and had a 100,000 warranty on the floor mats. West Cost Toyota and East Cost Toyota had similar “options” Gulf States guys also got a little first aid kit that says Toyota!

Are you sure? I have a 2003 and I've got the maint. light that comes on when I start the car. I have yet to see it actually come on other than that though.

The 03 have a maint. light but the owners manual doesn't show how to turn it off. When I bought mine, I went to the dealer and made them print out out to reset it.

I don’t know if the 03 was the first to do this, but since it was my first Toyota I thought it was cool. When the engine is running, turn the key to the “start” position and nothing happens! The starter will not engage, helpful with teenagers.

It's to remind you to change the oil.

1. Turn ignition switch to "ON" position
2. Set odometer/trip display to "ODO" mode
3. Turn ignition switch to "OFF" position
4. Depress and hold the Trip Meter "RESET" button while turning the ignition switch to the "ON" position
5. The service maintenance reminder light will:

i. Illuminate solidly for 3 seconds
ii. Blink for 2 seconds
iii. Illuminate solidly for 1 second
iv. Turn off

6. Release the Trip Meter "RESET" button
7. Turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position
8. Turn the ignition to the "ON" position and confirm that the service maintenance reminder light goes out.
