4th gen 4Runner Secrets?

What is the little spot under the lid of the center console for

This spot?

I don’t know if the 03 was the first to do this, but since it was my first Toyota I thought it was cool. When the engine is running, turn the key to the “start” position and nothing happens! The starter will not engage, helpful with teenagers.

You can use it to reset your electronics, when my JBL head unit in my 03 would lock up, a quick key turn would reset it, all while driving

Would you happen to have a pic of one installed?

Sorry, I just found your question.
Here's a pic. After a year of it being there I'm about ready to take it out and do something else. I may do something the FCC doesn't like and extend the wiring to create a head unit for the radio.

There's a handy hole in the roof frame for a bolt to attach some hanging strap. It' lines up fairly well with a full-size radio's mounting holes.

wow, this thread is amazing, I learned a ton of good stuff.

When I checked the secret compartment in the glove box, there were two really nice 2 way radios in there that the previous owner must have forgotten. Score!

Pumping brakes a bunch of times

Well one day at a late really late for school and i also was in a rush for the bathroom and i was getting jumpy and i kept pumping the brakes 5-10 times and it was beeping and the vsc and trac turned off for a short period of time. Not sure if it resets anything or what. But i can rip some mean one leggers in that 15 second window of no trac and vsc

I was reading this thread last night and went to check the "secret" compartment out. (The dealer said the cabin air filter is located there!:nerd:).

I opened it up and found some things:
A little med pack filled with bandaids, aspirin, mini-wipes, No-Doze, allergy pills,, etc. All WAY out of date. one was from 1990!
The second thing was a cigarette Y adapter - 1 to 2.
The third was a mini multi-tool! Pliers, blade, saw, and bottle opener/screw driver.

I just checked my secret compartment after having the vehicle for a week now and found a little Magellan navigation unit....

We found out that the dash temperature display bottoms out at -23°F (at least on our '07). We took a road trip across AK last winter and drove through several areas where it was around -40°F, but the dash display just stayed at -23°F. I guess Toyota doesn't expect you to drive in anything colder.

Can you tell me the size or #of the klennex box? I've been looking for refills and having the hardest time finding the size that fits this pocket.

:wow2:

Does the heater even work at those temperatures?

my headlights used to come on when i press unlock on the key fob; in the auto mode, but not anymore. lights just stay off now until i turn on the engine. anyone know what happened?

Do you use a block heater?

I have block heaters for both 4Runners, but haven't gotten around to actually installing them yet. Didn't need put one on last winter because we only had the one Runner at the time, and it lived in a heated garage (plus it doesn't get nearly that cold in the Anchorage area). Now that we have two though, one always has to park outside.
