I'm not sure how make a post so I just posted a quick reply but in case any of you don't know how to disable the vsc and traction control without messing with any wiring and can turn it back on easily. Well ill tell you now. Pop the hood, The drivers side of the engine bay up towards the brake fluid. you will see a gray plug parallel with the truck. Unplug it doesn't matter if your truck is off or on. Then go look at your dash. if its lit up like Christmas tree you've succeeded if its not well than I guess not. Note: On some models I think the 03 to 05 will say the parking brake is on. just ignore it as you if didn't apply it then its not on. ill post a pic of the plug later for anyone who wants it. Oh also when you plug it in you have to restart your runner and your good to go! Now go raise

I figured the same thing out when I was doing my disable mod. I just did the mod because I have a tendency to NOT be delicate and didn't want to take the chance of pulling the wires out.

Discovered this feature on fold-down rear armrest while cleaning leather seats on '08 Limited (not sure other trim levels have this sort of armrest). It's a pull-out tray table with pop-up cup holders. Push in and release on the horizontal line to open.

Cool find, although they mention this in the owner's manual (if you have one).

Careful when closing the tray though, b/c it has a sturdy base and your fingers can get squashed if you close it carelessly.

You gotta be kidding me! Almost 4 years of ownership and I JUST found out that the fricken visors slide so as to block the sun coming in from the side.

And the vanity lights in the sun visors have two switches. If you slide the mirror cover open the lights will turn on, then if you leave it open and flip the visor up, the lights will still turn off! Its the little things lol

This thread is great, I've owned a 2005 for 6 years and I learned a few things. I just bought a 2008 V6 Sport 4WD model and the locking doors are programmed differently than my 2005. I've tried to follow the instructions in the manual and in this thread, but for the life of me, I can't get any results from trying to reprogram the doors using the driver side door lock switch. In fact, I can't get either vehicle to change. So, I am guessing I am missing something.

Has anyone else had difficulty with the process?

I like the no hold starter feature where you just turn the key and the starter cranks automatically untill the engine starts.

It's a flick start, even if yours didn't for whatever reason worst case it wouldn't start and you'd have to hold the key.

I actually get angry in cars that don't have flick start.

Almost all Toyotas and Lexuses have this feature (after 2003) it's called Cranking Holding Function. It is very complex in its operation totally done by onboard ECM. But simple in execution. It has a built in frequency counter that checks all sensors that run the engine and it goes through 3 steps:
1. Detect start and hold starter
2. Check engine turnover stability ( up to 5 sec)
3. Check RPM and if all vitals are good disengage starter.

Your starter itself is no different. It's just that Toyota controls how long to keep starter relay under power. You can override the system and crank the engine by shorting starter relay. You can't start the engine though. Engine immobilizer won't let you. :uzi:

Here is Toyota's Description:
"The system detects the IG switch's starting signal and then supply current to starter until judge engine perfect explosion is judged. The purpose is to reduce the holding time of the ignition key.":shrug:

Interestingly in some conditions this function gets "fooled" and after crank hold disengages engine dies :crazy:
Restart usually gets it going.

Best thing about crank holding function: You can save a couple seconds and buckle up while your engine is starting. I love it.:bravo:

Gas pedal - Beautiful!

Here is an interesting secret and a piece of engineering marvel: 4Runner's gas pedal.

IT HAS NO TOUCHING PARTS! It's MAGNETIC! :wacko:

First there are no cables that pull levers in the engine, but many people may know or realize this. If you don't, here is a quickie: As you press gas pedal the stepper motor in the engine opens throttle for you.
But, the mechanics of a gas pedal is very interesting. If you take one apart you will not find anything resembling a volume control knob. Despite test procedure that measures resistance. There are just 2 pieces of plastic and a return spring. Everything else is completely sealed with epoxy. Connector is sealed very well as well.
