4th gen 4Runner Secrets?

This is really weird. My 2003 Sport had this feature as well. Do you have an aftermarket alarm system installed on your truck?

Nope mine's factory Toyota alarm. Has the little red button on the dash on the left side of the column next to the trac lock button.

Maybe its an SR5 vs Sport/Limited difference like mentioned??

Actually my alarm goes RainMan on me sometimes. I press the Unlock button, and the lights come on, it beeps, the doors unlock, and when I open the door, the alarm goes off. WTF??

And I have pressed the lock button before and had the lights stay off for some odd reason...... Probably need to have it looked at some day.....

Thats a dealer installed alarm not factory. The factory alarm (RS2000) uses the red car/key light on the temperture control/computer console just under the radio.

I read this and tried it, does not work on mine either. I press lock twice and the lights do not go back out. The lights come on when I press the lock or unlock buttons and go out after 30 or so seconds. Not sure if this is normal or if there are different systems or what?

My 2006 4Runner Limited was the same way when I bought it last year. The lights didn't turn off when pressing the key fob 2 times. They did when the light switch was in auto, but not when in the manual headlight position. Something changed with one of my services because starting about a month ago it does turn off when pressing the lock button two times on the key fob. Not sure what it was, maybe my dealer reset the computer when they performed the sulfur TSB.

Mine has that flashing as well.....

What exactly is this "button" you are referring to?

The little red lighted button mentioned in my owner's manual.......

This flashes when the alarm is on, the button has to be in the out position, if it's in I think that disables the alarm part of the system when you press the lock button on the key fob, but I'd have to re-read that again to be sure.

And the little car symbol with the key also flashes when the alarm is on.....

Looks like a dealer installed aftermarket alarm. Get a flashlight and remove the fuse cover and look up behind the panel. You will probably see the alarm added with none Toyota standard wiring (color, size, connectors, etc.)

Quick reply to several threads in here.

Mine is a 2005 SR5, with the optional 3rd row:

1. Head lights turn off automatically after 30 sec. Also, I can turn them off by pressing the lock button the key fob 2x.

2. Doors lock when I take her out of P, and everything unlocks when I put it back in P.

3. I have the one touch "start" in the ignition - I really wish they would have just put in a damn "start" button, (which is what the feature is capable of)

4. I have the flip out grocery bag - garbage hook just in front of teh 2nd row seats.

5. My 2nd row cup holders that pop out from the center fold-down arm rest DOES NOT have the "burger tray". Closer inspection of the specs. indicate the "burger tray" is only avial. on non-3rd row vehicles, since they use a different 2nd row seat configuration since the 2nd row, with an optional 3rd row setup, is hinged in the front of the seat, to allow access to the 3rd row. I'm not sure why they did this, they just did. All I know is that I love the t4r, and my little munchkins love the 3rd row seat.

Great vehicle, IMO, tranny clunk and all.

I don't any any of those 3 buttons.... Lol.

1) red light is for aftermarket alarm

2) is for an aftermarket sunroof

3) is only for 4X2 Limitted slip diff. (It is not a 4WD)
