4th Gen Air Box

I was just curious about our 4th Gen air boxes. I don't know much history on Toyota and how the engineered their induction systems but to me it looks like the factory box is somewhat of a cold air intake already. Does anyone have information on this? Looking at the box I personally don't thinks its worth the $$ to get a cold air intake but rather purchase a K&N drop in filter.
Thoughts? Pics? Info?

Thanks

Just pull the extra charcol filter out of the stock air box and add a high flow filter.

Do a search on Charcoal filter removal and you'll see what im talking about.

yes it is, & works fine, imo, an aftermarket may give you slightly better throttle response & more noise. lots of threads on this already, search for k&n cai, volant cai, etc. theres alot of different opinions on this.

Just like black_120 said, remove the extra carbon filter and get a k&n drop in, this is what I did on my last 4Runner, and I definitely noticed the lack of power when I bought my newer one. It's on my to do list for sure
