I really liked the Pelfreybilt hybrid as well, it wouldn't hurt to ask them if they could adapt their Tacoma design to their 4Runner bumper.

I ended up building mine loosely based off their hybrid design.

Yes, it's not on their website but I asked about it a year or two ago and they said they could build me one, that they just got all their kinks worked out on the design. Give them a call or email I'm guessing they will say yes.

Yes, it's not on their website. If you call, I believe you can order it either built or probably as a weld it yourself kit. The owner has a 4th gen 4Runner. The 2 cons that I've found are: 1) The light hoops are too close to the lights for any usable protection so I'll be changing that out. 2) I could only fit the Warn M8/M8000. If you want a larger winch you can request to have the winch offset over towards the driverside by 2-2.5" to be able to fit a Warn 9.5XP or similar dimensions and orientation.

Mine has a very tiny skid that just covers the bottom of the t-case barely, maybe 4" by 4" or so?

Front range off-road makes a sexy elocker skid plate. Are you referring to the center diff locker skid plate?

Great thread, thanks for updating it.

The 4th Gen comes with some skidplates, however functional they may be, but what exactly are the stock locations? Wondering if I'm missing one on my '07 because the t-case is exposed and it seems like an unfortunate rock encounter could sheer the actuator right off.

Did a Google search and there's plenty on skidplates, including aftermarket versions for the t-case, but unless I missed it, there wasn't a list or diagram of all the plates that came on a stock 4th Gen.

Which reminds me, did all trim levels have the same set of plates?

Did you get your answer yet? I can take a pic of my transmission skid plate of you need. The "first" one is currently off because I'm adjusting things right now and ill need an alignment when I'm done; I've lost all trust in other people to properly install my skid plates after a Toyota tech and two other alignment techs have screwed up the install. (I'm not even sure how that is possible, it's four bolts!) My plastic "shield" as it was called by another member, is about half gone at this point thanks to a large stick on the side of Mt. Rainier.

If you want some hardcore skid plates I would guess front range off-road has the best all around everything. They seem to be straight top of the line on everything they offer.

What's up nuron!? Thanks again for the help a few months ago. I highly recommend the 4x innovations sliders, but that's probably because I recently installed them on my truck. No squeaks whatsoever, but I did weld them on. (Paid an old retired welder $100 and a case of beer to do it) They have certainly saved me more than once and are currently holding my truck up on Jack stands. I wish I knew you were looking into sliders back in June when I drove to Wisconsin and picked mine up.

I'm about to repaint them for the third time. 3M makes great grip tape to add traction when they're wet (when are they not?). And I see zero damage to the DOM tubing aside from surface rust and missing paint.

Hey what's up man. I ended up going with the Full Force Metalworks sliders from Vancouver as I was going down to Portland anyways. Think I'll have to find someone to weld them for me as well. Might paint and install them next Spring so I'll have something to keep me busy.

RSG Metalworks Bolt On Sliders

Installed my RSG Metalworks bolt on sliders over the weekend. These things are burly and bolted up with no issues. A lot of 5th gens are rocking these, and I’m glad they added the 4th gen to their offerings.

Got any closeup pics of the install, especially the frame mounting? I've got a buddy quoted me about the same price for install. Did you hit any "snags" with placing the back plates or other things to watch out for? I'm planning to tilt them up maybe 15 degrees for a bit more clearance and put some of the grip tape on. Rest will be rattle can duplicolor bedliner from the parts store.

it was pretty straightforward. two of the tubes from the frame to the sliders were longer than the rest as pictured on the website. I opted to cut them down to be the same size as the others.

I took a wire wheel to the frame to prep the area for welding. I did unbolt the emergency brake line to give me some space to work with.

I'm not sure why so many people want the sliders angled so much or up as high as possible. just make sure you have at least an inch between the open door and the sliders before you fuse the steel. I'll get what pictures I have up a little later today.

any welder worth a dam can look at the pictures and the kit and say "OK, how far forward do you want it?"

on one side, my main tube flexes up to the body mount because it's too far forward. I'm chopping the mount soon anyway.

Yes, thanks, I have the same "mini-skid" mentioned by [MENTION=243945]mjotrainbrain[/MENTION]. Wondering if it would be worthwhile to get a local welder to extend that one another foot or so aft with some additional plating. I'll also look at Front Range to see what they offer.

Aluminum Strength compared to Steel.

Just Wondering how strong Aluminum bumpers are when compared to Steel. How durable are the Aluminum? Can they take a beating??

In response to aluminum vs steel, the aluminum is going to get pretty scarred up if you're sliding over rocks and so on. If your primarily road tripping and leisurely wheeling, the light weight aluminum would be more than sufficient.
