4Th Gen Chat Thread

So I was at a stop light today and I noticed my RPMs were getting pretty low. Is 600 at idle normal or should I be worried?

I havent driven my Runner in two weeks because I have been out of town.

Also found out that I have water damage in my Truck. What I believe happened was that when I had my roof rack installed, the shop did not put silicon in the holes to make the roof water tight. I have a mat in the truck and I took it out one day. Carpet was bubbling and smelled odd. Trying to let it air out but I think I'm going to have to get it replaced. :(

I've idled as low as 400 sometimes, unless it stalls, its ok haha

Did you use a code reader to clear the codes after you replaced the gas cap or did they just go away after driving?

I had cleared the codes several times with my bluetooth obdII reader, but I had lights on and went to advance auto to read them. It gave me code C1223 and another one that said all my abs sensors were fried and the abs ecm. After reading a few different threads I decided to replace my gas cap because I already knew it was bad, and the codes cleared up immediately. The light went on and off 2 times within and hour and has been clear every since. Some won't agree, but our ECM's are so finicky that anything will set them off and give you very crazy codes that have nothing to do with what is actually wrong. One of the reasons dealerships are terrible at troubleshooting, they just want to fix what the computer tells them is wrong. $15 and 500 miles later still no lights, even after an offroad event.

Yea, I had the same ABS and traction lights on my dash. I replaced the gas cap and unhooked the battery hoping it would clear the lights. Still there. I'll probably either go back to Advanced to get it scanned or buy a scanner.

Ya, to many things make those lights go off. It's one thing that I think is stupid about Toyota. One of the only things.

hey guys, is there a "for sale" thread or similar here for the 4th gens? If so can someone help direct me, I couldn't find one. Thanks!

2003 SR5 V6. Thanks to all of the stickies and great info, I've purchased Bilstein 5100s all around, and OME 885s and 895s. Going to purchase LR UCAs and signed up for the Shrockworks FB group buy (can't wait!). Any advise before I get the UCAs? Anything else I need to spend money on regarding the suspension? Hoping to fit BFG KO2s 285 70 17s. Still lots of mods to come as I'm just getting started. Slowly convincing my wife that it makes a good bonding experience for me and my 16 year old son...oh, and I did the window tint already..it sunny here in Vegas! Thanks again for all the great info sharing on here!!

I have 285 BFG's, and the guy who sold me the truck didn't put the proper spacers on. It had upper control arm rubbing pretty bad. I put on 1.25 inch spidertrax spacers and it's all good. He did the fender trimmimg. You and your son will love it all!

Anyone have an issue where you are under light/medium acceleration and it feels like the throttle is surging? With my louder exhaust you can actually hear it, and I may be crazy but it actually feels like it is getting worse. No codes, and if you punch it there's no stutter, but if you just push down lightly and hold the throttle it feels like you are speeding up and letting off non-stop until completely up to speed.

I hear these electronic pedals "learn" your style or at the very least are like those electronic stereo dials, its not how fast you turn the nob but how long....

BTW I love the hearing the VTEC kick over with the louder exhaust V8/KN similar to yours! I grew up in late 80s early 90s hondas when this was "new" technology, I love it in V8 form
