**4th gen cracked dash warranty replacement

I have excellent news for everyone with a cracked dash in their 4th gen. However this warranty is only for 03-05 4runners but this is still good. My father works for Toyota and I was delighted to hear this after my 03 having a 3 foot crack along the whole dash. My father as well said parts will be ready in May. I attached a picture for you guys!

As excited as I am to hear this (my dash has about 15 - 20 cracks along it's entire length), I feel kind of bad that Toyota is replacing this despite our trucks being so old. I mean, I have 200,000 miles on an 11 year old vehicle, I feel it's safe to say I got my life out of it already. I'd be more than willing to pay $50-100 out of pocket to get a replacement dash and put it in myself...just not the $1150 that they were quoting me when I first bought it.

I have to agree with you. Part of me is surprised that Toyota would warranty such old vehicles. BUT I think this might be part of a larger overall plan to reinstate their reputation for reliability. This is purely conjecture, but things like this will help show people that they stand behind their products, which is important given the huge number of recalls everyone's been having lately (Toyota has had a couple big ones, GM is in a constant state of recall, the airbag fiasco with Takata, even my Aston just got recalled this week for the seat heaters lol). Again, purely conjecture, but I can't think of any other reason why they would warranty such old parts.

I wonder what do they mean by "certain"????

I have a half inch crack and i know if I put any pressure on it it will grack more..

Also have discoloration on certain spots. Likely due to heat. How would I know if they would cover it?

in the letter it says cracks are to be replaced due to heat as well so you should be good

Interesting... I will have to keep an eye out for the TSB when they release it.

Keep in mind that Toyota is stating that they are only covering it for damage under "Heat & Humidity" conditions, so I'm sure the TSB will have criteria for what counts and doesn't count ('m going to assume most cracks over a certain size will be automatically including as long as they don't show impact damage or something.)

Warranty Coverage details:

• The Primary Coverage offers warranty enhancement described herein for all owners of covered
  vehicles until May 31, 2017, regardless of mileage or date of first use of the vehicle.
• Secondary Coverage supplements the Primary Coverage for some owners by offering the warranty
  enhancement described herein for 10 years from the date of the first use of the vehicle,
  regardless of mileage. For instance, if you own a 2009 Camry that was first used on January 1,
  2010, you are entitled to the warranty enhancement through January 1, 2020.

Holy SHIT BALLS!!!! Is this for real? I live in a hotter than hell, mosquito infested humid climate and my dash is cracked! It is the ONLY thing in my interior that does not look new and brings me down. If this is real, and I qualify, this will make my Christmas, well, CHRISTMAS!

I think you're right (was my thought too), and also I think on top of that, the dashboard isn't exactly a DIY'ers job for most people, so it's not like they can just ship a box of free parts or service coupons to the customer. After thinking about it, I realized that the dashboard really can be a game changer in any vehicle as well because it's the first thing you see, so selling your car, especially with a dashboard as bad as mine is incredibly difficult. The truck looks like crap with it, and mine is so bad that those dashboard carpet covers just put dash material off because it's so crumbly now.

Just a guess, but considering I picked my 4th gen up for $5,000 (complete running condition, needed about $1,000 of parts to pass safety), and the guy had been trying to sell it for a month, it might hold some weight.

Since browsing thru the forums for quite a years and noticing that others had this issue, I noticed that I had a hairline crack on my dash starting from the left side to about where the air vent is located, very minor, can't really notice it unless you try hard to find it, but nonetheless, this is good news. I think I might have had the crack in last 4 years. My 4Runner was kept in the garage all the time since I bought it, until I got married in 2011, it has been exposed to the Texas heat in the driveway. I plan to keep this vehicle for a very long time and look forward for that letter for a possible replacement.

I do feel that Toyota is going above and beyond by fixing this. Surprised they aren't limiting it to the initial owner or with some other caveat. The reality is, however, it is an inferior dash pad. I had an 86 4Runner that aside from some cracking around the vents up by the defroster, was in fine shape. It's disappointing that manufacturers would be getting "worse" and not better with their materials.

Wow! Now my (and many others I am sure) dilemma. I have a decent looking Coverlay dash cover. Do I pry it off and probably irreparably damage it in order to get it evaluated for a possible new dash which may take months or more to get ordered and installed, with a chance that the numerous cracks I foun objectionable may not make the grade. Or even worse they may blame thee cover that I used to cover the cracks on the cracks. I would love a new dash and will likely take the chance.

So for those with cracked dashes in need of replacement what do you guys suggest we do? Im the third owner of my 4runner and I doubt Ill get a letter in the mail in regards to this. Should I contact the dealer and bring this info to their attention because I dont think Ill get a letter, or should I wait it out till July 2015 or so and see if I receive a letter by chance? In the same boat. Luckily when i bought it from the previous owner at 79k i had my dealership do a 120 point check on the 4runner and they made notes about the cracked dash. So hopefully i'll be able to bring that up if they say the cover caused the cracks.

Well, I am the original owner of my '05, living at the same address as when I purchased it, and I have not received any letter thus far, regarding my dash. I did, however, receive the recall notice regarding the brake pedal/floor mat issue, a few days ago. HAS ANYBODY ELSE RECEIVED THE CRACKED DASH LETTER FROM TOYOTA, YET??????

So what's the deal with the "10 years from date of first use" clause? If that is what it sound like, then 2003-2004 models are SOL, right? Tell me I'm reading this wrong.
