I'll be sure to let you know what I end up with....looking at a silver 2003 V6 sport with 55k, and a 06 V8 sport in salsa red (really sharp) with 30k....
I can prob get the 03 for 16.5 or less since the dealer has had it for over 7 mos and I think is looking to dump it. But since I test drove the V8 today, I'm leaning toward that...at least another sport 4R with the 8.....I didn't think I'd be swayed by the extra HP since I'm not towing anything, but it sure felt nice....
By the way they're asking 27.4 for the 06...not sure what I can get them down to if I decide I have to have that one...I'm thinking less that 25, but who knows
writing this now, it seems stupid to cough up close to 10k more for a car with only about 25k miles less and 15HP more...so we'll see

This is true for all vehicles, not just 4Runners or Toyotas.

One more question for OP, the 06 with the v8 has 4 wheel drive right? The price seems a little steep to me, but maybe it is just my area.

Some of the information above isn't correct, there were engine upgrades outside of the new SAE ratings.
True, in 2006 there was a new SAE standard of how HP and torque is measured. Toyota and Honda under the 2006 SAE standard had their power numbers dropped, but some GM models received a bump in ratings.
The 4.0 V6 is unchanged for all 4th generation 4Runners, 2003-present. In 2005, the V6 was mated to a 5-speed transmission, it was a 4-speed in 2003-04.
The 4.7 V8 received a VVT-i upgrade in 2005. The V8 has always been mated to a 5-speed transmission.
2005 was the year of powertrain upgrades for the 4th gen, 5-speed for the V6 and VVT-i for the V8. 2006 was the year of cosmetics update.
Here are the power ratings for both engines,
2003-05 4.0 V6: 245hp @ 5200rpm/282lb-ft @ 3800rpm
2003-04 4.7 V8 (non VVT-i): 235hp @ 4800rpm/320lb.-ft @ 3400rpm
2005 4.7 V8 (with VVT-i): 270hp @ 5400rpm/330lb.-ft @ 3400rpm
Same engines as 2005, but under the new SAE ratings for 2006:
2006+ 4.0 V6: 236hp @ 5200rpm/266lb.-ft @ 4000rpm
2006+ 4.7 V8: 260hp @ 5400rpm/306lb.-ft @ 3400rpm
Fortunately, Toyota did the VVT-i upgrade for the V8 in 2005, so a direct comparison of the power increase can be used against the V6 and the non VVT-i V8.

I'm not saying you are wrong in reference to the V6. But the OP is also considering the V8 as well, which had an upgrade.

To address that concern, $10k difference is also 24HP more with the V8 under 2006 comparisons (25HP under the old ratings), if you're comparing it to the 2003 V6. For it to be an apples to apples comparison, it has to be made either both under the new SAE standard or the old. Not all manufacturers conformed to the 2006 rating. IIRC, 2006 Nissan specs were still based on the old rating system.
The important thing to keep in mind is which rating system the manufacturer is using when comparing engines. For many engines, the output is the same just how they measured the number changed thus the number reported figures changed. (It's like measuring one's height with shoes on or bare footed.)
