Hi all. I just bought a 2007 Limited V8 with 43,000 miles on it. I had never heard of the driveline bump issue, but within 2 minutes of driving the thing I realized something was up.
A little searching quickly turned up more info than I could digest. I’ve read the threads here and elsewhere. I’m aware of the slip yoke, multiple Lexus Service Bulletins and the replacement propeller shaft assembly that some have installed (#37110-60A40)
Today I brought the 4runner in to the local dealer, and expected to get stonewalled. While they would not agree to install the Lexus part under warranty today, the service tech told me that he was able to re-create the condition – that was a relief. He pulled and lubed the existing shaft, which he acknowledged didn’t entirely solve the problem. But here’s what I thought was the interesting part…
He said he contacted Toyota, and they acknowledged the issue. They told him to not install the Lexus part at this time, but that they “are working on a solution to resolve the 4Runner driveline issue”. When I asked what we should do next, the response was to stay tuned for now. I expected him to tell me to check back in a year or something, but instead he said to call him in a couple of weeks.
Is anyone aware of Toyota finally looking at a permanent fix for this?
