4th gen for 5th gen 4Runner?

I have an 08 SE with about 50K on it (V6 btw). I like the looks of the new Trail Edition (esp in either the red or blue) and covet one of them. Would you trade your 4th gen for a 5th gen?

I simply dont like the 5th gen because they dont offer a v8. Plus, I like the looks of mine better, but thats obviously bias.

Well, how much have you invested in your 08? For me it always came down to the bottom line number. If the jump will cost you about 5k (as an example) is it worth it to you? Do you gain anything capability wise other than aesthetic appeal? You'll be driving it everyday and for me with some things (motorcycles, toys, etc.) I am willing to pay because I hate the whole "what if" game.

The main thing I would miss is the Torsen center diff. Like other members have said on other posts, Toyota cut costs by not including it in the Trail Edition.

Would I do it? Not in a million years. I don't like the 5th gen styling and I don't care for the 4wd system either. Those two problems are enough to make me wait for the 6th generation before I even think about getting a new one again. In the meantime, my 4th gen has been super reliable and should easily last many more years.

Funny, Just told my wife when it comes time to replace my 4th gen, it would be with another 4Runner for sure. I do like the 5th gen, it would have to be the Trail edition in red. The limited and SR5 version don't float my boat at all.

Of course, I think the 5th gen looks silly at stock height, much in the way I think the 4th gen looks horrible stock. Add about three inches and some bigger donuts, and I think they are pretty slick.

The 4wd electronannies don't mean too much to me however, I grew up, and still wheel, a 69 CJ5. Three speed, Warn O/D, 4:88, locked. Pretty simple. I like to "drive".

I'd trade my 08 V8 in a heartbeat for a 5th Gen with fold flat 3rd rows if I could afford it. I don't like the look very much stock but with a lift, tires and spidertrax I think they are the bees knees. Towing with the V6 wouldn't be too much of a problem for me since I only tow 3k. In a couple years I will most likely make the switch after some used one's come on the market.

Now that the US$ has fallen to under 85 Japanese yen, an '08 4Runner Limited that went for US$40k in November 2007 would go for over $53k today. That's why Toyota had to decontent the latest generation model. So, no, I would not be interested in giving up my 4th gen.

I don't like the looks of the 5th gen also its a lot slower than mine as well. To me the best looking 4runner is the 06-09. Its really up to you and what makes you happy.

I've grown too attached to the V8 and full time 4WD, I couldn't give those up. :driving:

Me too.... plus I'm supercharged which you won't ever see in a 4runner again (V8 that is).... So it'll have to be a heck of an upgrade for me to trade up!:guitar3:

We looked at trading our 07 Limited for a 5th Gen Sr5 or Trail Edition. Toyota offered us $24K trade in on ours, which I thought was really good, and we got them down near invoice. But after an hour long test drive, it drives more car-like and floaty. We weren't impressed and I wasn't willing to add that much debt since ours is almost paid off.

I myself am really happy with my TE. I traded my 03 Tacoma TRD for it, and l with the extra room and the great looks, well it was a no brainer for sure.:boink:

As much as i really like the 5th gen, i wouldnt trade my 4th gen for it. I would regret it i just know it. When my wifes car is ready to be upgraded ill trade that for a 5th gen lol. I really think the 4th gen is an awesome vehicle and once u get rid of it it will be hard to get it back, i dotn think the 5th gen is as strong as the 4th for some reason.

Honestly, I think I'm going to trade it in...unless someone here wants to buy it :wink2:. I really like the interior of the Trail and I think the Trail is just as capable of a car in the city, but more robust when off pavement and in the snow. I hate the external antenna in the 5th gen, but that's about the only thing I dislike.

FS: 2008 SE V6 with factory nav...

5th gen V6 with 270hp beats my 4th gen '03 V8 with 235hp. But my '03 is sexier than the 2010. :biggrin2:

Yes but the updated 05 V8 is about the same HP with more torque. Also the 5th gen is 300lbs heavier with a V6.
