4th Gen Front & Rear Differential Question

I haven't given the winch much thought until now, but I think it might be a more practical solution, especially if I am stuck or helping someone out of a snowy ditch.

And just to clarify, the center diff or transfer case is not a LSD. It is a Torsen III planetary gear torque sensing (torsen) differential. In it's normal operation it senses which axle is demanding the most torque and sends majority of engine power to that axle. it can split the power 70/30 60/40 or 50/50 to the front and rear axles. In order to get true 50/50 power split front and rear you have to manually select the actuator that locks the transfer case.

LSD (limited slip Differential) uses a series of clutches to allow one side of the differential to spin but limits how much faster it spins compared to the other side, if one side spins to much it causes the clutches to grab together to send power to both sides of the diff. Once both sides of the differential are spinning at the same speed the clutches let go of each other and it goes back to normal operation.

Sorry to resurrect.

Does anyone know of a rear diff that's limited slip and lockable? I had this on my 06 Rubicon and it was a life saver. Rarely needed to use the locker because the rear was an LSD. I'd love to have the same thing in my 06 V8. ATRAC just isn't the same.

So - I think my question was answered by this thread, but just to double check - 2nd gen Tacoma front differentials are interchangeable with v8 4Runner fronts, right? The only difference being the ADD - for which you just remove the ADD equipment from the Tacoma diff and proceed to swapping in?

yes, they are interchangeable 03+ 4runners with ADD can swap with 04+ tacomas with ADD. I'm not sure if you can swap out the NON ADD components with the ADD components though on the different setups. Very likely this is possible just unsure.
