4th Gen Gas Door rubbing?

Has anyone experienced this when you open the gas door to it's full extent it rubs against the body and the door? I just bought an 03 4Runner about two weeks ago and when I filled it up I noticed it looked like it had been touched up previously just curious if this is a known issue and how to fix it or if it is just something funky with mine. Thanks guys and girls.

I have the same issue on my 2004 T4R.

The hinge is soft enough metal that I was able to bend it in such a way that it eliminated the rubbing.

My 03 Sport did the same exact thing! I never worried too much about it because the rubbing areas were never visible once the fuel door was closed. It sure made an annoying noise when the door was being opened though!

My 03 does it too. In fact I have a small chip where the fuel door hit the body.

Mine did that too when I bought it and the paint down in there had been rubbed off....

Being the anal person I am, I bent it back into alignment so that it wouldn't rub any more and touched it up down in there.

Same here. I hate it! the tolerance is too close. If I bend it out so there is a good gap, then it sits funny on the truck, to close, then give it a couple of gas jockeys and it is rubbing again.

I has scratched the edges of the gas door which is not great.

the fuel door on mine started rubbing against the body when opened for refueling. it's the left bottom edge of the fuel door. a small piece of paint had chipped off. friend of mine who has exact same 4Runner also has the problem. they must not have done this work right.

do i just pull the bottom of fuel door outwards hard so it might give it a little more room in between the door and inside body? thanks.

Yup, mine does that too. 2003 4Runner. However, I am not able to tell where it rubs up because I have yet to see where the paint chips/rubs off...

My dealer has bent mine back a couple time now. I am just VERY careful and dont push it open all the way to the stop. That is the only part of our 4R's you have to be gentle with!
