4th gen headroom

I'm considering a 4th generation 4runner, drove one tonight, and was really disappointed by the lack of head room. I'm just under 6'4 and was basically looking at the edge of the visor.

The model I drove was a limited with leather and a sunroof. The seats did not seem to be height adjustable, but I really did not try too hard. Do any of the 4th gens have height adjustable seats? Any difference between the cloth seats vs. leather? Any other suggested fixes? I really want one of these, but don't think I could tolerate it as-is. Help.

my 03 Limited has has power seats and I can raise the seat up a lot so it must be able to be lowered pretty low.

Have you driven a FJ cruiser? There is a lot of head room in them.

drive one without a sunroof, more headroom. but I guess that dosent help if your staring at the visor lol

My 06 Sport has cloth seats with height adjust. I also have the sunroof. I am 6’3 and did noticed the lack of head room with the seat raised all of the way. If you find a model without a sunroof you gain an inch or two above you. It took me a little bit once I bought it to find the best seat position. The Limited model should have power leather seats just like the sport.

This seems to be a common complaint among them. I remember when I got mine, coming from a Rav4, I hated the lack of headroom. I'm not even that tall, only 5' 7". I think you get used to it though.
Once I lifted mine and removed the running boards I have to kind of hop up and there have been numerous times I've bonked my head on the upper door jam.

It's the sunroof, that kills headroom. I'm 6' 5" 220lbs and i'm snug in my limited with sunroof but I'm definitely comfortable. Adjusting the seat properly is key tho. They're height adjustable but you have to lower the front and the back seperately, you can't do it in one motion. Also leaning the seat back helps too, plus it gives you the gangsta look

Im 6'6'' drive an sr5 with no sunroof and I have NO headroom issues at all even hat on and hoodie up I still dont rub ( this is also non height adjustable seat) I drove a limited with a sunroof also and the sr5 with NO sunroof has about 2'' more headroom from what I could tell. Home this helps

You must have some big hair because I am 5'10" and have miles between me and the sunroof

I don't have big hair, nor do I bump my head on the roof. I have plenty of room inside the truck, but I did notice a considerable difference when I first test drove.

I'm 6'4 with a long torso, shorter inseam (32"), whereas my dad (6'1) has a short torso and long inseam (34")... I don't fit in the 4th gen 4runner. My head hits the sunroof portion of the roof. However, i fit just fine in the 1st-3rd, and 5th gen trucks. I'd probably fit in one with no sunroof, but have never been in one. And i love sunroofs.

I had an '03 SR5, no power seats. They were height adjustable though, it had a wheel for the height I believe. My '06 SR5 currently has power seats, the height adjustable switch is there, closest to the back I believe.

That makes no sense since a 4th gen with sunroof has more headroom than a 3rd gen with sunroof.

I'm 6'1" and I have constant issues with my 4th gen (limited w/ sunroof). If I lean the seat too far back where I have plenty of head room, it becomes an uncomfortable reach for the steering wheel; and considering I have neck/ back issues, I have to sit up relatively straight. Finding a compromise between headroom and good posture with these seats is certainly a struggle. Right now as long as I don't elongate my neck too much (drastically) I won't rub the roof -- so I have about an inch- inch and a half of clearance!

Finding a compromise between headroom and good posture with these seats is certainly a struggle. Right now as long as I don't elongate my neck too much (drastically) I won't rub the roof -- so I have about an inch- inch and a half of clearance!

im 6'8" with a limited w/sunroof. I have headroom issues. I also usually have a faux9-ish style hair style. Some days are worse that others but i have the seats down and the back leaned pretty good. Thankfully i have long arms but for the most part i have to lean towards the console which killed my upper right side of my back. If i sit straight my neck hurts a bit on long travels. Im going to cut and lower the mounting brackets soon to gain more room.

I'm a new owner of a 2007 Limited, and it is an issue. My most comfortable position for my back, with the seat all the way down, has my head rubbing the headliner right next to the sunroof opening. It helps if I lean the seat back a bit. Didn't stop me from buying it, and I think I can live with it considering all the other good things!

Not that it matters that much, because seated height is way different than standing height, but I am 6'2".

Its all relative. If your 5' tall your seated height will be much shorter than if your 6' tall

I'm concerned that even with buying a new seat (aftermarket), majority of the issues are going to be from the mounting brackets being a little too high for a ceiling that's a little too low. I'm really only comfortable (posture-wise) with the seat almost straight up, but there's no way I can drive more than a few minutes with my head rubbing the ceiling. This is by far extremely frustrating.
If you do this, let me know, I'd like to get it done if you have success.

There aren't really any brackets to cut. The seat just has 4 feet that bolt into the body. I guess you could shorten those by taking out some length but not much is there it I remember. However switching out seats should work since there aren't really brackets to worry about.

I havent yet, my friend that has the machine shop has been busy. I hope to make the brackets flat instead of how they are normally. __/----\__. If i can cut out some of the height it would make a world of difference. Much like i i turn to my left and my hair/head can hit the headliner.

In the meantime i've lowered my seat back a little farther than i usually do and its worked until i get a chance to get in the shop.
