4th gen main problems

Like I said in my presentation I need some advice from you gays!

The matter that brings me here is the reliability of this 4Runner, and I'm asking this because in Portugal (I would say in Europe) there is no 4Runner model. So I have no clue if this car is any good, and what kind of problems I'm looking for if I buy one, or when I'm looking for one what kind of troubles I need to search for!

I'm thinking on buying a 4th gen from 2005/6 v6 petrol.

Bear in mind it will be the first and only car I (when I say I, I mean us, me, my wife and my 2 year old boy) will have in Canada for 2 or 3 months, so it will need to be reliable, have a good MPG, be reasonably comfortable, loads of space and a 4x4 jipe. I already discard some possibilities like the Jeep grand cherokee for a few problems well known on this part of the ocean, The Range Rover because it has a low MPG, the Mercedes R class it has a lot of problems on the reliability department and it is not a jipe (my wife want one... so), the VW Touareg it has a few problems of reliability on the electrics.

Feel free to correct my English, I would thank you on advance to do so.

Feel free to argue with any mistake on my ideas, and if you think there is another way to go, please tell me.

A 4Runner will fit all your needs (reliable, capable, comfortable, decent interior room) except it does not get good fuel mileage. Mileage is ok, but certainly not great, however, it's not any worst than any other midsize SUV.

A couple considerations are that you want to avoid the 2003/04 V6's as they have a higher rate of head gasket problems and if you get a V8, the timing belt is supposed to be changed at 90k.

Your English is pretty good but I don't know what a "jipe" is. It seems like you are referring to the 4wd system but I'm not sure.

Yep.... my bad!!!
Jipe is a Portuguese word for a 4x4 go all around vehicle, with a good off road capability. I think in US is Jeep (but not the brand, is the type of vehicle)

I read extensively the forum searching for problems and I saw that gasket problem you talk about, that's why I said I'm thinking on buying a 2005/06 one.

The MPG is important, but not that much....

Oh I don't want a pick up truck, so I pass that kind of advice!
