4th Gen Miles Per Gallon

Took a 460 mile round trip over Thanksgiving from Chicago out to Cedar Rapids. Saw a few 4th gen owners posts recently about MPG and here are my numbers.

2007 Limited, V6, 4x4, completely stock, factory Michelin tires inflated to 32 psi, 57,000 miles on odometer, vehicle unloaded, with driver & passenger only.

Cruise control set at 70 mph the whole way (no traffic delays), cruising on flat land with overcast/sunny skies.

Calculated mpg results using trip odometer in the dash and total gallons required to fill the fuel tank each time.

Chicago to Ceder Rapids = 19.71 mpg (average temp = 27 deg F)
Cedar Rapids to Chicago = 20.72 mpg (average temp = 42 deg F)

That's about what I average driving around town. When I went to NC in August, I averaged between 21-22 mpg at 70 mph

how much are you getting now?

I get 16.5 mixed.. no matter how I tried driving.. 17ish on just freeways. The lieometer is 2mpg more..

This is all calculated by every fill up.

Before the lift and tires I was getting constant 18.5.. That only lasted a month. 2mpg difference for a v8 is not bad.

Im sure I can squeeze out another mpg with new spark plugs and maybe TB cleaning.
 
I hardly remember 20, but I used to get that on the highway. Now I get 14...35's, V8, aftermarket exhaust sound so good!! :D
 
i avg 15.6 if im strictly highway @70mph ill get around 17. Otherwise im upwards of 12MPG-17MPG. All of it sucks so i stopped caring.

Me and the fam traveled 1200 miles over thanksgiving and averaged right at 20mpg, say goodbye to that as the build begins!!

Summer in 2wd, 17.5
Winter in 4wd most of the time, 16ish

At least gas up here has been following the price of oil. We're down to $0.98/L CAD here in town. This past summer I was paying $1.35 in SK.
 
Prior to any modifications i averaged about 20 mpg. With a 2" lift and 32" tires I'm right about 18.5 now.
 
I have gotten 21-22 on a road trip up to the north end of the Big Island on the open highway where you can finally cruise at 60mph or so.

Around town I usually get not more that 17 calculated and by Scanguage. The dash computer is useless.

Stop and go kills mileage heaving the weight up to speed.
 
I regularly see anywhere between 16 and 18 mpg these days and I always calculate it by hand with every fill up. I should probably be writing it down, but I just like to know what kind of mileage I got and I don't trust the computer...at all.

I've watched my mpg's slowly go down over time and I'm assuming I need to clean my MAF and maybe my throttle body to get it back up. New plugs probably wouldn't hurt, either, even though I put iridium plugs in the last time I changed them.

I also notice a considerable drop in mileage when the winter blend fuel starts hitting the pumps here in the northeast. My milage will drop from 16-18 mpg to 15-16.5 with no change in driving style.
 
'04 SR5 2wd V6, 198k miles, full tank of gas, no gear or passengers. 70mph for 60ish miles, I got 22.1 mpg per the console. That was with very worn sparkplugs. I'm curious as to how much it might improve with the new ones I just put in this afternoon.

What's the consensus on the accuracy of the console mpg meter?
 
I have an old thread over on tacoma world about the time I got 28 mpg in my 2nd gen 2WD Taco. Locked to 55 mph on the highway. The engine and drive train are the same-ish, I presume the 4runner may be more aerodynamic? 4th gen 4Runner could probably do it to, or at least get close.
Someone on tacoma world also got 26 mpg in his 2nd gen taco, 4x4.

Anyway, the v6 is very efficient at lower speeds is my point.

I did some trials for fun on a long road trip using the real-time MPG feature of my OBD scanner and it routinely reported 23+ mpg with the cruise set at 55.

Did you do any manual calculations to see what you are actually getting in MPGs?

It's really the only way to know if the electronic calculations are correct, I don't trust the electronics calculations until I confirm they're correct.
