4th gen motor swap

This is just hypothetical, but I am curious if it is even possible. I had been thinking about this lately after watching a bunch of YT videos of V8 swaps. I know the 4th gen 4runner already has a V8 but I had wondered about swapping it out for the 5.7 iForce from a Tundra or Sequoia and then TRD supercharge it to get the 510 HP.

Can the 4th gen handle that much power? Mine is fulltime 4wd so can the drive shafts and diffs and whatnot handle it?

Can the 4.6 also support the TRD supercharger? The LQ9 is a GM engine so I was hoping to keep the engine Toyota based.

It would be much easier for you to buy a used Cayenne Turbo. Just had to toss that out there :)

Porsche Cayenne TURBO 2006

Nah. Thanks though.

This is what I would want to replace with.

There's a guy on TacomaWorld with the same goal, he wants 500NA. Seems like he is going to be dropping an LS variant in but has been pretty quiet about what he's doing.

I would also like to go the LS route next summer, but was thinking that a 2JZ might be better compatible with the Toyota electronics and such.

You can fit the 3UR-FE in the J120/J150 Platform. In 2009 TRD made a Tacoma with a Supercharged 3UR-FE.

The engine will physically fit in the frame and the headers will fit between the frame rails (I took the rough measurements of the space between the frame rails while working on customer's vehicles :) ). The issue is more about the supporting assemblies.

I have a "dream" build to drop a SC'd 3UR-FE tuned around 550~600ft.lbs. of torque; I'd probably use the Tundra/LC200 transmission, transfercase, differentials, axles, ect. because I don't think the 4th or 5th gen components would stand up long to that abuse.

Physically speaking everything will fit without needing to cut the frame apart (custom mounts and brackets will be needed though), the trickier part is the networking. Depending where your donor drivetrain comes from, you're looking at a LOT of bypassing, tricking network communication, ect. to make it work correctly. You wouldn't be able to just shove an ECM from a Tundra/LC200 to make it work, at best it might actually start, at worst it won't even fire.

Is Toyota ever gonna offer crate engines? Imagine a 5.7 engine ready to install in idk a 60 series landcruiser. Anyone read the article on 4wd Toyota owner where they put the Lexus 4.0 V8 in a second gen T4R? So sick. Idk what's sexier that or diesel swaps. Point is it can be done and should be done by someone with the money and know how for the rest of us to drool over.

the difference between putting say a 1UZ-FE in a first or second gen and putting a modern UR-FE V8 motor in a 03+ toyota is that the older vehicles are mainly analog still, so its not hard to just throw the motor in with say a mega squirt and have it done in a few days/ couple weeks. on the newer yotas there are at least 3-4 different computers that all have to talk to each other and 10x the amount of sensors required, all so it can be smog/emissions legal. my 89 i bought this summer is classified classic, so i can do pretty much whatever to it.

I would love to put a 5.7 in my 2004. It's a pig now that I have a bumper, lift, huge tires, and sliders (and sound deadening).

Anyone know someone that can do it?

Well first you need to drive a Pre 94 pickup or 4runner with the 22re or 3vze it doesn't matter which, if it has oversized tires even better. Drive it around for a few weeks try to do a lot of accelerating on to on ramps and driving up steep grades. Now get back into your 4th gen and its going to feel much better

I drove a 3VZ-E (see sig) for 20 years...one of the main reasons why I got the V8! Didn't even look at V6s. I drove mine home from a Vegas dealer and I swear I had a little grin on my face the whole way home!:thumb:

Look for a thread very soon on this very swap. 3UR-FE into a 120. Guy is on here. Already been done in a Prado(120), Tacoma, early gen tundra and even a Lexus sc430.
