Sorry about that, meant to add it - 7 Mile Rim - Optional Obstacle "Wipe Out Hill". It's one of my favorites in the area. Also ran Porcupine Rim the next day, but that was a bit rough (steps/ledges, some with significant undercuts).

Nice with the RM Exped Club. That's right up the alley of several members of my group (Rocky Mountain 4x4 - RM4X4.ORG). Good times.

who are you, ME? ive gotten lucky with my NAPA reman axles. i did have to remove a burr on the inner cup on the passenger side (i think it was a new cup put on the oem axle then rebooted). i usually ask to see all the axles they have instock for the 4runner, FJ, and tacoma and look for the ones with the most OEM parts and most CV deflection angle. im just too cheap to buy CVJs, but i think you said somewhere you got some?

Yep, finally broke down (pun intended) and picked up 2 new CVJ's yesterday. They're nearby so I didn't have to have them shipped. Since I have crap aftermarket I don't have cores so it cost me almost $500. Not bad considering the lost time wheeling with the junk.

After breaking 3 CV's I'm tired of it - yeah, I'm apparently a slow learner!

Cool options to pick from from basic replacement, to upgraded boots, to chromoly caged (Lotus Development).

I hear you on no core...ouch that price was for me when I got mine.

Rick, My son works at a Toyota Dealership and his price was still in the $500-600 range so CVJ was a steal. An expensive steal but I'll have less to worry about (I hope) and have an aftermarket to carry.

No joke. Got the quote from the Toyota dealer on S. Broadway and then called CVJ.

I upgraded the boots just to see how well they do. I already have a failed boot and plan to replace with CVJ rebuilt and then take him the failed for a rebuild/or core. Good way to get used to replacing one myself before I have to trailside.

Also liked that I could just drive and pick it up north of Denver.

Creeping up to 2yrs with mine. Wheeled once. The truck surprised me and everyone i was with. My question is, do u guys use the Center Diff Lock when on the trails? I did on this trip because there was so much snow and mud that i wasn't worried aboit anything going wrong.

I dont get out as much as I would like.

Not into the real technical trails, more of exploring trails.

I go to the FJ Summit each year for my peace of mind.

Slowly getting the 4Runner into shape, it takes a lot of money to build these rigs right, even with doing your own wrenching. Currently saving for gears, locker and next size up tires (35")

Creeping up to 2yrs with mine. Wheeled once. The truck surprised me and everyone i was with. My question is, do u guys use the Center Diff Lock when on the trails? I did on this trip because there was so much snow and mud that i wasn't worried aboit anything going wrong.

The only time you shouldn't use it is on dry pavement. Don't be scared of it. In fact, if you are on anything slippery you'll need it as the traction control will kick in.

the center diff lock is your best friend on the trails. the only time i dont have it engaged on the trails is when im making real sharp turns.

This year is harder. My soon to be wife, getting married June 4th, is a stay at home mom now after the baby so we don't have a dual income anymore. But my business has been pretty decent so far so we're banking on that. Lol
If I can keep things going in hoping to sas before winter. ;-)

If I'm on anything more difficult than a graded dirt road, I'd use the center diff lock. I would probably also use it around town if there's more than 4" of snow.

I'm in a similar boat. 18month old, 3yr old, 14, 15 & 17. Luckily the 17yr old is rocking a Jeep liberty and wants to hit the trails also

There are advantages to being an old guy - my son wheels with me. The downside is he has a more capable truck.
