One thing you have to member is this is not Metal Techs design. They are OPOR design and Metal Tech has the contract to make them, they have to do exactly what OPOR tells them.
I have seen actual stuff made by Metal Tech and its defiantly a better design. There are better sliders out there yes, but these are $450 full price. You get what you pay for. I made a few modifications that cost me maybe $30 total and have been very happy with them.

That is kind of the impression i got with these OPOR... just bolt on in two hours and then put your OPOR sticker on the rear window when finished.
I believe there is a reason why they do not show how the sliders are bolted on when you look at the MetalTech website. No sane person would buy them.
I am frustrated, but i am past that point now and just want to get the job done.
Take two ****italls and call it a day.

Agreed... I have given MetalTech thousands of dollars just in the last year. I am happy with them.
Just frustrated with this job. Your pictures of your install enlightened me to follow your path to install the sliders to my standards.

Yeah, same here, stage II Icon from them, no issues. Plus other goodies.
And yes I will finish this up next week with more photos and steps.

Finally had a day to finish the slider install.
Ended up drilling all the way through the frame on the front and used the U bolts on the rear. They seem to work. I went looking for a place to test them. But only ended up getting wet.
Overall i am happy with them. I just think they need a little bit more design to them.
The driver side has fuel lines that you have to watch out for when putting the U bolt into place.

Congrats on getting the sliders on. Sorry I didn't get a notification. I too found these not to be the easiest to install, but I haven't any complaints. While I haven't used them in the real world yet (as much bought them as cheap insurance and steps), I have used them as jacking points on occasion doing other work, such as adding a spacer to my driver side to alleviate the "driver lean" issue. Overall I'm pleased with them. I didn't get mine powder coated. I rattle can the tops (bad about scratching where you step in and out as you pivot on the top of the slider, scratching it with gravel/grit) every few months. Your truck looks great.

Yeah, I used your thread as a starting point. Good stuff by the way.
It just felt like that OPOR had a good idea for the sliders, fabricated it and just did not follow it all the way through, including the step by step directions. But for the price, I can get over all of it now. They are painted and installed. I just hope others follow this thread and learn from it.
Thanks for the compliment. Wish i had a bumper like yours on the front, but that has to wait a bit. I just blew a brand new shock up front so i am trying to decide what to do about it.

Yeah...I learned from it...I'm going to pay someone to weld them on. HAHA I mean it can't be that much to weld these suckers on and buying almost $40 in material to mount them can be put towards that. I like the clean look of them and the price...so I'll deal with those minor shortcomings. I wonder if MT will add a third leg to them for me for that extra support? Hmmmm

Where did you get this?, this is absolutely 100% not true.
I have installed mine just fine using the rivnuts/nutcerts. For people who have never used a rivnuts before I suggest buying a few extra and practicing with them. It takes a couple times working with them to fully understand and get a feel for working with them. Biggest mistake I see people make is drilling the hole in the frame too large and then the rivnut/nutcert not grabbing and just spinning around. You want that rivnut to barely fit in the hole. Having to gently tap the rivnut into the hole is ideal for best fit. I have dropped my rig down on mine, lifted it by them, done everything imaginable to them and I weight more than most here 5500+ lbs never had a single issue with them loosening or moving around.
The issue I see with doing through bolts only is that the outside of the frame rails is actually thicker than the inside, so there is more strength on the outside. By going to the inside to hold all the weight, and not using a big enough plate to support or spread out the load you run the risk of bending the frame and or pulling a bolt/nut into the frame denting it with a big enough hit -i highly doubtful you would pull through the frame but definitely bend and weaken the frame at that spot. There is a reason MetalTech supplies that small steel plate for that through bolt. A washer simply is not strong enough to spread that load out, especially if everything is completely through the frame.

Another concern with using through bolts is that the frame may get squeezed (deformation)if not a larger plate is used in leu of washers. Typically, when one drills through a frame, a round sleeve is welded through the hole. This way, the bolt goes through the sleeve and then you can tighten the shit out of the nut/bolt. This will not squeeze the frame but rather, squeeze the sleeve, which is fine. No frame deformation is achieved if using this method.

Mine seem to be doing fine, have not noticed any frame damage and I think i can say i have put mine through some good use.

The first part of what you said where it is not MetalTechs design and it's OPOR who is telling MetalTech how to make them yada yada yada... That couldn't be further from the truth. It is in fact actually MetalTechs design... OPOR is not pulling strings and running the show.

Not trolling, just spewing some facts. Yeah, done my share of rivnuts installs - steering boxes, sliders, link mounts, etc. Below is the rivnut tool I typically use along with two 3/8" rivnuts. I caught up to a local buddy with a GX yesterday who also has the MT sliders and saw what you were talking about. He didn't install the rivnuts either but he is also not a rock slammer.
It's all good, meant no disrespect or condescension. But, as always people take sage advice however way they see fit.
