4th Gen Poly-Urethane Body Mounts

So a little while ago I emailed 3 companies that supply body mounts for 3rd gens about 4th gen products. The response I got was roughly, "we're not planning it now, but if there's sales to be made we'd be interested." Ah, good old capitalism at its finest!

So now I am curious to see if there really is a market for us, most of us have our vehicles hitting a decade old if not getting close to there and these body mounts hold up pretty well, but they won't last forever. I know a couple of mine are cracking, compressed, and showing wear at nearly 10 years old with some off-road abuse. As you may or may not know, to replace all 8 body mounts from Toyota (currently the only supplier for 4th gens) its about $500+ dollars for the rubbers and hardware. So I want to encourage members to vote in the attached poll and please email your desires to these guys (maybe even link this thread for them to check out? ):

I wouldn't be surprised if the companies could easily make them work for Tacomas and FJs as the body mounts are similar in design.

I'd be down for a set assuming it was a mid stiffness durometer. Maybe 70A-75A?

Definitely want a set. My body mounts are not in the best condition and could use some slightly stiffer ones with the body lift.

I am guessing here, but most people, including those that mod their vehicle, pay little mind to the body mounts. However, with the age and mileage of a lot of 4th gens, those rubber body mounts are loosing their integrity. I think many people are not appreciating the importance of having their vehicle body firmly and securely mounted onto their chassis. I am sure many never even considered it given the prevalence of unibody vehicle construction these days. A lot a body squeaks and rattles that begin to show up over time are a likely indication that the body mounts need to be replaced.

Small update, I got bored and started playing on Toyota Parts - Shop OEM Toyota Parts Online at Village Toyota and found that the 4th gen 4Runner and FJ Cruiser share all the same body mount part numbers save for 2 body mounts that the 4th gen uses due to a longer frame.

The 5th Gen 4Runner has a different set of part numbers than the 4th gen (but the body mount locations are identical to the 4th gen), but I would assume it has more to do with hardness of the rubber than anything. The Tacoma also has different part numbers, but again seem to share similar enough structure that I wouldn't be surprised if they would interchange as it seems they may simply be different durometers.

So basically, if I were any of these three companies; I would highly considering making 1 or two durometer options in poly-urethane as most, if not all the J120 & J150 vehicles seem to have extremely similar body mounts. This would mean they could produce a smaller quantity of SKUs that would be applicable for 2 Generations of 4Runners, the FJ Cruiser, and 2nd Gen Tacoma. Which means less investment in development, tooling, packaging, ect. that would be required with a broader range of prospective customers and larger potential for a return on their investment.

What are the advantages of poly over stock rubber?
Won't poly mounts squeak over time? Also, I thought the poly was super hard and don't you want the body mount to be flexible to isolate vibrations?

...and I'm a complete noob at this so any wisdom appreciated.

Great idea Blackworks - I know we had discussed the body mounts and how expensive the OEM units are so this would be a great option. My only concern is one you and Eric already mentioned regarding the proper rubber hardness. I'll drop an email to the companies you listed.

Yep. That's a spambot. I've seen these ones before - they copy a random sentence somewhere else in the thread and repost it as their own.

I found these for the first time on 6speedonline (I'm a moderator on that forum) - I noticed a "forum member" that I wasn't familiar with had copied one sentence from a post I made, so I checked the other posts by the same member and realized it's a spambot.

And yes, I checked this one - same thing. All of its posts are copied sentences from earlier in the threads.

Yes, the poly mounts will transmit vibrations that rubber ones absorb.

There's a spammer that's been doing that repeatedly under different names. I've seen it at least four times with my posts. They copy a fragment of someone's post so it looks like they add to the discussion, but after they add invisible images. Or at least they are invisible to me, maybe they are blocked. They could be tracking us, trying to download malware, or maybe one day they will turn them into visible ads or something.

If you edit your post, you will see that inside the QUOTE there's an IMG. You should edit your post to remove the IMG so you are not perpetuating the spam. Mods: When you delete these spam posts, you should take the images out anywhere someone has quoted them.
