4th Gen - Programmable Functions??

Which of the functions (ie: door locks, headlight on/off, etc...) can the dealership service department change?

If I am going to ask for one free ($40) function change, I would like to do all that I may desire at the same time.

Well, i can't find any info on the Toyota 4runner settings that can be changed...however, here is a basic list for Lexus models:

It takes the dealer about 10-15 minutes to change any or all items.
1. Connect meter to DLC3 port
2. Turn on ignition
3. Go to "Customize" menu to make selections. Most dealers do not charge for this service.



I am not sure how much of this applies to the 4runner. It is probably best that you go to your dealership FIRST to ask them to give you a listing. Then, you can pick which ones you want them to change.

Some of those options are supposedly part of the RS3200 Plus security system, which I believe is on the truck (Gulf States code S6). I'm planning to take it in next week for its 6,000 mile service and will see then if it's something that we can program or if it requires the dealer's special computer.

What about Daylight Running Lights? I thought they were built into each 4Runner, then merely activated or not.

Thanks for the info. My auto door locking when tranny is placed in gear is a major PITA, and will be defeated if possible. I can't tell you how many times I've had to move the vehicle 15 feet, then jump out to raise the rear gate, only to have to go back to the door to press the button. BMW has a better idea on this...doors auto lock only at 10 mph or so.

The 4runner also has this feature I believe. I set mine to lock and unlock when the shifter is moved to and from the "P"ark position.

The instruction are in the owners manual and it is easy to do.

Locking Programmable

I had my dealer turn down (not off) the arming beeps. However, I programmed the door locks myself. There are 4 options on the programming of the door locks and the instructions are in the manual - 20's or 30's. Very easy.

This worked great! Thanks for the tip. Just beware that you have to "turn on" the lock while moving function, AND "turn off" the lock with shift function....
It took me a while to figure this out. I was scratching my head for a while when the doors locked when I shifted out of park, then locked AGAIN at 12mph! After I "turned off" the lock with shift function, it only locks when at 12 mph! Ah, what a beautiful thing...

I have tried to change the door lock feature without any lock. I think i followed the manual, but probably not since it does not work.

What happens is everytime I move out of park the doors lock. I want to program it so when I reach 12mph the doors will lock.

Any help or tips would be great.

In the instructions for the manual I found that you need to follow them to the letter. I tried it a couple of times and it did not work but I was counting the number seconds instead of actually timing it. As soon as I actually timed it the changes worked as stated.

It has to be exactly (or as close at you can) to 5 seconds. I found if I went over it didn't work. I used a my stopwatch.

This is what I did and maybe or probably I am doing something wrong.

I put the inigition in the ON Position.
Hold down the lock button and move the Shifter to anything but park. Most of the time I out it in R. The doors are locked at this point. I hold the power locks down for 5 sec. Then I put the car back into Park and shut off the engine. To test I unlock the car start it up and move the shifter to R hoping the doors will not lock, but it does.

So am I doing it all wrong ?

I believe the probelm is you are moving the shifter after you hold the lock button down. You need to have the shifter in the position you want based on the programming then hold the lock button down. If you have done it correctly when you release the lock button all the door locks will lock and unlock automatically and you know it has worked.

If they do not automatically unlock and lock try again.

Remember you need to do this in the park position to remove the current setting also. In fact I would try this first so you can get this part to stop before you set it to lock when you reach 12 miles per hour.

Hope this is clear enough. The manual instructions leave a lot to be desired.
