4th Gen Rear Door Panel Separation

Does anyone have any tips or secrets on separating the elements of a rear door panel?

There are several elements/pieces/parts to the door panel that are attached to one another by plastic welds. I want to replace the black faux leather trim on the top of a door panel by the window,... I have a tear in mine.

Trevloc's video on door panel removal is straightforward, but I need to dismantle the panel itself.

I can't help you there, but I believe a member is selling door panels, that may be an easier way to go? good luck either way.

kylebacc took his off to paint them (search "interior 56k warning"). IIRC he used my advice which was to use a large drill bit to drill the the plastic rivets from the back. Not the whole rivet, but just the part on the back side (thus the large bit that won't fit into the hole). You could also use a dremel or razor blade to remove the the exposed part

I did this with the subwoofer panel in my '03 limited. If you need to reattach you can find appropriately sized screws (very small and short) and drive them into remaining "tube," you may need small washers too. I did it a few times on my old truck and it's still holding well. I think you may also be able to glue it if you don't like that method.

On the other hand... It's all ball bearings nowadays, you may wanna prepare the Fetzer valve with some 3-in-1 oil and gauze pads, and then you're gonna need 'bout ten quarts of anti-freeze, preferably Prestone.... No, no make that Quaker State....

I have a semi circular tear in the black faux leather that I glued back down with Super Glue. Looks ghetto to me so I want to replace it. Previous owner probably tried to push something in between the back seats and gouged the trim piece there. Just don't want to drill something out that will not go back into place and hold well because passengers lean up against it.

Do you have any pictures of the mentioned parts? IIRC most of those are clipped and plastic welded in so once you get the door panel off you should be able to cut the welds and such... though truthfully I have never tried it.
