4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ

I'm trying to decide on a tire size.. i want the toytec boss lift.. with the rear spring 2 inch lift.. i was going to put the car at 2.5 inches in the front until i buy upper control arms..

so the tire size I'm having trouble with..

265/70/17 KO2 C rated.. but concerned they will be too small looking with the lift..

255/75/17 KO2 C rated, but concerned they would look funny being so thin..

both weight the same so not really concerned with the MPG hit for a truck that spends 90% of its time on pavement..

275/70/17... but I can't seem to find many C rated ones only really E rated which are heavy as shit and will be gas guzzlers..

what do you think?

that nitto weights almost 55 lbs..

the bridgestone dueler at 285/70/17 is 46 lbs! that is pretty damn light for a 285.. and I'm seeing the toyo open country all terrain is weighing 44 lbs in the SL tire?!? if they are that light i don't think the gas mileage will be crushed right?

the issue with 275 is lack of options.. once you get over 265 the light C tires seem to disappear..

I kind of had my heart set on KO2s, but they are only really an option in the smaller tire, which both weigh 46 lbs..

Go KO2's in 265/70/17C or 275/70/17E and except the hit on gas mileage. These rigs are not designed for fuel economy so git 'r done the way you want. You should still get 15+ MPG regardless of choice.

hey all, I'm preparing to put on a Stage 2 Icon lift on my own and I'm making sure I have everything I need.

I'm curious, does anyone have a list of all the torque specs for the various bolts and which ones should have loctite applied or not?

I've found a lot of step by step instructions but none of them seem to include torque specifications.

Thanks!

I posted most of the torque specs or links to torque specs on the first page of my build thread.

Hope it helps...

I have the original standard, not REAS, suspension on my 04 SR5 with 145K. There is no leakage but my ride seems hard. Mine is a city cruiser and I was gonna replace the front strut cartridges, bushings and strut mounts plus the rear shocks. I was going to order OEM from a dealer site for about $400. I dont want to raise or anything, I just want a smooth ride. Are there better OEM style packages that have similar prices? If my old stuff lasted 12 yrs, it must be good for my driving habits,no?

If you're sticking to the streets, the Bilstein 5100 package is cheaper and a similar ride to stock, firmer though.

DownSouth Motorsports sells a set for $350. 4WheelParts usually has sales too, looks like their sets are $380 and they pay the tax. They have 4600s for $333 as well. Technically those are the offroad shocks.

Larry,

If your ride is "stiff" then I wonder if your tires have too much air pressure in them. I say this because a "tired" suspension usually gets too smooshy, not stiff. Shocks will develop leaks and stop working as they should so the ride becomes more bouncy. But, if your ride is harsh, that points to the tires having too much air pressure in them and/or the tires are older and the rubber compound is becoming hard. Couple that with cold weather of Chicago, you will notice the harshness more.

If you push down down at each corner of the vehicle, is the vehicle going down and then back up quickly? Or maybe you can't even push down at all?

Anyway, just another opinion!

You don't have a BMC with 285s? What castor are you running? I'm trying to settle on tires/lift size, but I'm not getting UCAs yet. Was going to get 275s, but if 285s with spacers can go no BMC, that's even better.

Alright fellas, my ICON stage 1 kit is being delivered tomorrow. Includes coilovers, rear shocks, and springs. I've got a shop I can go put it on myself, along with the 5th gen SR5 wheels I picked up. Is there anything specific I'm gonna need for or after the install from personal experience?

I have a 07 v8 4runner limited with 2inch leveling spacers and I want to add a ome 3inch lift kit, has anyone added a 3inch lift to spacers?

Alright guys, my 4Runner sport edition has 86k miles, it has the XREAS, which seems to be fine, I want to lift it some and put on some bigger tires.

I won't be doing the install myself as I don't have all the space or tools. I have a 4Wheel Parts close by to me, so I'd likely go to them as I'm sure they are qualified.

Should I just go with a spacer kit? Daystar 2.5/1.5

or save up the money and go with Bilstein 6112 fronts + rear spring (wheelers T12?)/whatever shock I choose (maybe Bilstein 5160).

Obviously the Bilstein way is a more 'proper' solution and I don't know how long the XREAS will stay functioning... shocks can start failing at any moment depending on age etc. as the seals get old etc.

Obviously the spacers are much cheaper, which means I can quickly spend money on some tires and maybe even some wheels which would compliment the lift.

What's your intention with a lift? Just for looks? A spacer lift is fine for pavement, but you'll hate yourself if you go off-roading with it.

Yeah I'd like to be able to take it off-road, I obviously don't do it now since it's all stock.

I feel like most of the time the rid is ok, but obviously the system is damped for road conditions. Even on big expansion joints at highway speeds the suspension is overwhelmed, the shocks and springs are simply not able to handle big impacts.

This is what makes me lean towards the 6112 as they are monotube shock with typical Bilstein digressive valving, although I've heard mixed things on the 5160's leaking... so maybe on the rears go with Fox or something.
