4th gen, the proper way to engage center diff lock button?

I got 2006 T4R and it has center diff lock button.

I read the manual carefully and it gives an instruction on how to

properly switch between various drive modes.

For example, going from 2H to 4H, one has to be driving under 55 mph and so on.

But it doesn't say much about how to properly use center diff lock button, other than just saying to push it on and off...

does that mean that I can push it to activate regardless of what speed or what mode I'm at? For example, if I'm driving at 60 mph, can I push it to activate the center diff lock without having to stop or slow down?

common sense says no but the manual comes with no warning or headsup...

i would say under 55 as well but i never tested it. one should not have to use 4wd at 60 anyway. if at speeds like that i keep the diff open in 4wd. i only lock the diff when offroading and hardly ever use it if its snowing

i put in 4wd hi, then come to a stop, put it in neutral, and engage center
diff lock.

for the CDL, just make sure you are driving straight.

it may still lock in correctly if you are turning, but I don't expect its very good for it.

ive never used mine at high speeds, but I see no reason why you wouldn't be able to. again, as long as you are going straight, there should be no issue.

Yes, as was said, just drive relatively straight, any speed.

Stopping and being in neutral only applies to activating low range.

I know this is an old post but I was surprised to see left out a valuable caution for engaging the CDL. Shift at any speed, any transfer case position (although it won't do anything in 2H), preferably not while driving around sharp curves, but DO NOT engage while a wheel is spinning. Spinning meaning of course not in the general sense but in the sense of spinning while stuck.

Then it won't engage. It will just blink and not do anything until it senses the conditions are right. It's not like the old transfer cases where you pull the lever and have to worry about non-meshing gears.

I'll engage/disengage mine while moving depending on conditions. If the VSC is kicking too much for my liking, I'll kick it on, then kick it off when I'm not sliding around as much. Same with 4HI, I'll hit it while moving. Seems to engage faster than when I'm just sitting there.
