4th Generation Roof Rail/Crossbar Scratching

I just adjusted my crossbars for the first time and now I have marks on the inner edge of the roof rails. The bars were unscrewed all of the way before I moved them, and they didn't slide very easy. Now I have little black marks on the inner roof rails. Is this normal?

I noticed the same exact thing with mine. I have a Sport and my rack is silver. I loosened the bolts and tried to move it and it scratched. The only thing I can think of...it might help to have a person on each side moving at the same time...just a thought.

I just thoguht it was pretty ridiculous to have a day old car and have scratches on it. Seems like they could improve the system.

Well, if you use the racks enough, there will be a well defined scratch line along the inner roof rail. The racks will eventually look well used, which might be attractive on a suv.
