Just wanted to ask if anyone else's are "loud"? Mine squeak even driving on the street, turning into a parking spot, etc. it's getting kind of annoying as I've spent a lot of money on my suspension. I though it might have been the uca so I lubed the uniball and added grease to the zerks. Didn't work so I then greased the lower control arms as well just incase it wasn't the coil overs. No change.

So is there a way to lube the shock so it's quiet again?

some done do it, some do. If you shoot some lube on the shaft seals every once and awhile itll go away but it will come back.

I just got rid of my icons and im silent.

Hmmmm, and I just bought my Icons. Have yet to put them on. Lets hope I get a set that doesn't squeak.
 
Either look at it like that sound is how squeaky clean the shaft is going through that seal....

OR

It's the kinetic energy being dissipated as heat and noise (and even light if you look closely in the dark!) with the extreme stiction of that seal and whatever lack of lube + presence of grime is there.

Man... I hate threads like this because I know I am eventually going to upgrade suspension again and I really dont want to look forward to that stuff either, so I get it OP.

As much as I want to upgrade to the ICON stuff soon, I have a feeling I am going to miss how tight, quiet, and frustration free my 6112 setup is with the stock UCA.

Its a great performing setup and in the city/freeway drive is amazing, but I wonder if my desire for more performance off-road is going to leave me with any sour taste when on-road.

Having achieved a good balance is a good place to be, which is why I am hesitant to change at this point... that said, its only a matter of time until another box shows up at my doorstep.
 
My brother has 30k miles on his Icons front and rear, and I have around 25k on mine with no issues whatsoever. Believe me when I say we've thrashed them hard from time to time. We've noticed no squeaks or leaks ever. Even our uniballs have been problem-free since day 1. Sure they've got dirty on the trails and started squeaking but a shot of tri-flow got them quiet immediately.

I don't blame [MENTION=87687]LTDSC[/MENTION] for going with Kings after his Icons failed twice, but I don't want others to be deterred from what is either a poor maintenance regimen or just bad luck on a few other's rigs. With the experience my brother has had with them, I didn't even think about going with any of the other shock brands for my truck. Maybe we're the Icon outliers?

According to my brother, the FJ forum users seem to constantly bash Icons for breaking/leaking which him and I attribute to the larger percentage of FJ's on the forum running Icons vs other brands. I just hate to see new people getting scared of a good product from the bad luck or misunderstanding/misuse of a few users.

I say this now, so watch both my coilovers explode in 50 miles.
 
I had over 70k before the first issue. Good luck, many have issues with icons and I have not been easy on them.

You know not to use wet lube on the uniballs... hey take dry Teflon lube ONLY
 
Yeah I've been using the tri-flow I believe it's called. It's gotta be the shocks as the rear is squeaking now. I'm sure there's no issues, just annoying

Just fix it the same way the Ford guys do it... just get louder exhaust.

I've seen it work first hand... my brother had a GT Mustang and it kept developing new creeks, rattles, and clunks... he got some flowmasters and the problem "went away".

There is even a small piece of electrical tape in the owners manual, in the trouble shooting section, which fits perfectly over the check engine light.

This sounds like a Ford owners way of fixing things... hahaha
 
I just got used to the extra sounds. My stock suspension was clunking so the slight creaking I get from my ICONs is an improvment!
 
Squeaks aren't that big of a deal... If I cared that much about having something be completely quiet I wouldn't have bought an off-road vehicle.. :der:

I don't have any ICON stuff. My rig is all Fox, but I keep a can of Tri-Flo in my recovery/tool bag at all times. Spray all the suspension pivots and joints every 6-8 weeks and it keeps my rig pretty free of squeaks and creaks.

Also give the coilovers and shocks a misting of Boeshield every now and then to keep dirt/mud from clinging and preventing oxidation of bare metal surfaces.
