4th of July Roadtrip down the East Coast!

Heading down to Wilmington, NC for the holiday weekend and Cape Fear 7's Rugby Tournament and planning on camping at the Carolina Beach State Park. Planned to head down to Virginia Beach and then take 12 the rest of the way South along the coast through Hatteras. This weather should make things interesting... Does anyone have any recommendations for must see places or stops along the way? Thanks!

But seriously... I might reconsider driving NC-12 this weekend. The storm will be gone by Friday night but there is no telling road conditions or changing ferry schedules and never ending Bonner Bridge issues.

I live in Beaufort. If you haven't been its a cool little historic town with plenty to do around Morehead City and Atlantic Beach. Stop by for a zesty beverage!

I'm in Raleigh and was going to Nags Head this weekend but rescheduled due to the storm

We will tentatively be leaving extremely early tomorrow morning to avoid any nonsense on 95 at least until we get to Richmond, then heading East to Virginia Beach. We will be keeping an eye on the weather and move inland if forced to do so, but hopefully it'll work out and we can get some cool pictures of the storm.

Sounds like it'll be a fun trip! I can only speak for Richmond as far as places to check out goes - but I don't think you will want to hang around here long if you're trying to make it to OBX.

Just some advice, most GPS's would have you go I-64 East from Richmond. Depending on when you get here it'll be just as bad as anything in NOVA typically is during rush hour (holiday weekend, bad drivers, congestion due to poor road quality, etc.). Consider taking 460 east instead. It'll be some scenic country driving with much less traffic. You'll also pass "Virginia Diner" in Wakefield where you could stop for some true, southern VA cooking.

Carolina Beach State Park just called and cancelled my reservation for tomorrow because the park is now closed, at least for tomorrow, for the likelihood of the hurricane hitting... looks like we'll have to alter our plans, possibly head up 12 on the way back from Wilmington instead....

I am heading to Wilmington's Wrightsville beach in a couple of days. Most beautiful beach in the Carolinas. A few weeks back I was down on 12south in Ocrecoke. I recommend the OVR permit to have fun w the 4rnr on sand. Well worth the 50bucks.

Arthur is here in Nova Scotia now. Pretty high winds. One tree in the greenbelt behind us was blown over but nothing major. No significant rain either. Areas in New Brunswick and PEI are getting a lot of the rain.

I will be taking the 4R to Nag's Head this saturday for a week. First trip in it.
