4th v. 5th generation

I asked the same thing on the 5th generation forum. How do people here feel about 4th v. 5th? In the market for one or the other. I do moderate offroading.

:nono: No double posting. Go 4th gen! If you break it, it's used anyway and prolly cheaper to fix. 5th gen? If you break it, you might have a heartache b/c you got it new plus more money to fix. That's just how i feel. :

Go down to a dealer, drive all four or five. Four or Five? Drive a 4th gen V8, 4th gen V6, 5th gen SR5, and a 5th gen Trail.

See what you like and go from there. A vehicle is a large commitment and you need to make the correct choice for yourself.

There is something to be said about driving the latest and greatest. If I was looking right now for a 4Runner, I would go with the 2011 4Runner Trail Edition with KDSS and Navigation.

I just traded my 06 4R Sport Edition V8 and got a GX470. I'm honestly 99% on road and wanted a high level of Charmin for my butt. I do love my 4th gen V8, and with the GX470, I'm keeping the part of the 4Runner I loved most, engine and drivetrain. Plus, the GX was cheaper, 30K with 19K miles.

I like some of the specs of the 5th gen like the higher ground clearance and some of the creature comforts, but i cant stand the styling. theyre ok from the front but just plain ugly from the rear. too much like the new sequoia.

It would help if you tell us which MODEL you're looking at...Trail Edition, SR5, Limited, etc..

A good compromise is the 2009 Trail Edition, which is a 4th gen 4runner and has the center differential along with A-TRAC and rear diff lock. So, IMHO, it is the best of both generations in a sort of way. The problem is that the 2009 TE is extremely hard to find...i posted one a few days ago with only 11k miles somewhere up northwest area...you can search for it if it interests you.

I wouldn't pick any models other than limited on 5th gen, because sr5 and TE are part-time 4WD on 5th gen. Not like 4th gen, all come with center differential, as long as you switch to 4HI, you can run it on all paved road and make sharp turn without worries.

I decided to go with a 5th Gen SR5, I picked it up this past weekend and I love it so far, very happy with the decision and it's awesome. I can't remember the last time I was this excited about a new vehicle.
