4th vs 5th

I liked the very light feel of my 97 3rd gen and the 4th gen felt heavy at first but appreciate the weight now that I am used to it, I can't find a reason to move up without more torque.

Those rear interior mirrors are a huge benefit to me in low light conditions and they have saved my tail many times. I estimate that if cared for I have another 100-200k miles.

Honestly, it's not so much a lack of power but you can feel the extra weight. In most situations it has more than enough power, if your willing to let the motor wind up.

I don't really use the rear interior mirrors on my 4th gen. Just never really got use to them I guess. I installed a rear view camera and Pioneer touch screen and I can turn on the rear view cam whenever I want to in addition to it coming on automatically in reverse. I do use that a lot.

I'm about to turn 129k miles on my 4th gen. I feel like I can get 250k out of it easily.
 
In a perfect world I would find a 09 V8 sport or te low mi. and be done with it BUT I don't so I went to the dark side , son got the 05 so I can still/steal it back when I want a solid 4x4 4r my 2 !

I wish they'd put the 5.7 in the 5th gens with the option of the supercharger! Zoom zoom!
I also wish I could put a supercharger on my 4.7. I feel cheated that it doesn't work on the T4R but does on the Tacoma.. Bastards!
 
Jbl sound system included rear speakers in the pillars where other models without have mirrors. Get either one and you will be happy. They're Toyotas.

You could always buy a new GX460 and a 2014 4Runner and just swap the frames and some wiring from one body to the other. Would it be cost effective? No. But you'd have a V8 5th gen and a leftover V6 GX, lol.

if you have jbl you don't have the mirrors, they're right next to the roof by the rear window, either side

there is an option for a supercharger for the 4.7, made my trd but no longer in production, pre-vvti only i believe

Does Toyota make a 5th gen v-8 4runner? What would be nice is if they made a 4th gen with the 5.7 V-8. I LOVE my V-8 all wheel drive 2007... Will be real tuff to give it up...

They don't make one and they wouldn't put the 3UR-FE in the vehicle. IF they were going to make a V8 5th Gen they'd take the existing GX460 and slap a 5th gen body on it.

The 1UR-FE 4.6L V8 is no slouch and would be perfect for the 5th gen... hell the GX460 is the same damn platform so all the R&D has already been done. Its just the CAFE standards that hold it back (hence why we don't talk about that failed abortion the 2.7L 5th gens.)
 
Kinda the way I felt about them when I 1st saw them always liked the way the 3rd gen looked like the tacoma . But now its grown on me . I must say when I drove the 05 today I was like wow this thing scoots , way lighter than the 5th ! The seats n the 5th are what sold me my old ass needs all the lumbar I can get !

Surprisingly not hardly at all. Went out offroading today and I had not lack of power in any situation, hill climbs, mud bogging, etc. I expected them to affect me more due to them being twice the weight of stockers, but am very pleased.
 
I have a 4th and 5th and, in my opinion, they are both excellent vehicles. There are advantages and disadvantages to both, and combining the best of both (along with a manual transmission) would make for one incredible vehicle.
