4WD Handle??

I have been interested in installing a 2nd 'O-S***' handle on the drivers side, just like the one on the passenger side.

I have no idea what the actual name is for these handles, and I think I have seen some guys on here who have done this.

Some help on the part name/number would be appreciated, as well as some insight on the installation...

My new to me 2000 SR5 has one from the factory. Both my wife and my daughter were really surprised. They figure if they have to use the Oh s__t handle, I should have both hands on the steering wheel. I tried to explain that I might need it for balance if we're tipping way over the side, but they didn't understand. I guess I'll just have to demonstrate it for them.

Are you talking about the one on the headliner? I put one on the drivers side after I redid my headliner and accidentally made holes for the handle even though the drivers side didn't have one there. It already has the holes in the headliner wood and threading in the body for it. I searched for a 4runner grab handle on eBay. They had them for like 20 bucks. Kinda expensive, probably could gave gotten it for cheaper from a local junk yard but I was lazy and didn't want to go look.

Thank you, that is what I was looking for...I saw that there are slight impressions in the liner that look like prior threaded holes but was not sure. So if I am understanding correct, all I need to do is knock that small amount of carpet off and then thread the new one right on there?

I think the part I need is the 74610-16010-E3...I called a local Toyota dealer and got the part for $16.23. Toyotapartscheap told me that the beige one is no longer available, I am wondering if the 'Oak' color is different than my interior?

I know Oak is what they call the tan interior on my Limited.

Yeah my '98 SR5 had the holes there already and threaded for the screw. Idk how the handle will come but if you want make sure to get the caps that go over the screw holes too so that you don't see the screws.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing...wanted to know if I needed to purchase both the screws and end caps seperate? I assumed it all came as a package, but BFAD shows 3 different part bags. Any insight would be helpful

Watch your head if you install this. The reason they didn't put this in from the factory is because the 4runner is already pretty short on head room.

I looked into adding one a while back, but found multiple comments from people saying that they started hitting their heads on it alot after adding it. Ingress and egress could be a bit tricky if you add this.

Good feedback NelsonMD, luckily I am not the tallest person and I do not think it will become a hazard for me. However, if others drive the rig it will be something to be noted...

I did a little sit test before ordering the parts, and decided I would definitely hit my head on it. I am only 5' 11". I know these things are a bit famous for having pretty poor head room. To be honest, I don't know how people taller than myself don't hit their heads without slouching. Then again, maybe I just have a freakishly long torso...

Im 6'1 and I have never even come close to hitting my head on my extra grab handle. I never even think about it when I get in, its just not in the way to begin with I guess.

We purchased a passenger side handle($5) from a member to install on the driver side headliner. As mention earlier, a simple piercing of the headliner with a thin pick will expose the mounting screw holes already in place to receive the handle screws. It was a very simple install.

At 6 feet tall, LuDog and I have never come close to hitting our head. Much like compensating for the vehicle lift when getting in/out of the seat, we are aware of the handle and do the same without thinking about it . Either way, it's a great mod that we use often.

As far as the color, our Oak handle matches perfectly with the rest of our interior.

Pretty positive you are going to have to order them separately. That's usually how parts are so that you don't need to get extra parts that you might not need, every little piece is sold separately. When I bought mine it didn't come with the caps and I think I paid less than a dollar for each of them from the dealer, they were cheap.

And I'm 5'10" and I've never come close to hitting my head on it.

Thanks everybody for the information, I have ordered all the parts and the toral was around $25 from the stealership. I looked at the various cheap parts sites, and with the cheap nature of the parts the shipping made the dealership actually cheaper.
