4WD Issue

Hello everyone,
I have a 89 runner V6 4WD manual transmission. I put it in 4WD High and drove about 60 yard and heard a loud grinding noise and the vehicle started to slow down. I stopped the vehicle and put it back in 2WD. It worked fine in 2WD with no issues. Does anyone have any thoughts or advice on this. Thanks

Your front diff probably gave up :rip:

I was driving on a paved road. I put it in 4WD at least one a month just to get the fluids moving, at least that is what I have been told to do. This is my first runner and I am learning how to work on it.

Wish I had a magic bullet to fix your problem.

Best advice - tear into the diff, and the transfer case to see what's up.

Did you check the fluid levels recently. If you were dry - that could be the leading cause of failure.
