4WD not engaging

So I’ve looked at a lot of other posts and couldn’t find a solution but whenever I switch my 4R into 4HI, the lights just flash, no sounds or clicking or anything. When I switch it back to 2HI, the lights immediately turn off like it was never even attempting to switch into 4HI. Does anybody have any ideas as to what could be going on and how to fix it? Thanks

good luck

Look up the actuator threads, my truck wouldn't go into 4 low, so the dealership replaced the transfer case, there are ways to rebuild the actuator, plenty to read up on...

Pop it into neutral , turn the knob to 4hi , then go back and forth between reverse and drive , slowly roll the vehicle back and forth .
Try that and see if it works.

Have you ever shifted to 4wd before? How long have you been experiencing this? If you've never used it, maybe try shifting it a few times a day for several days. Maybe it's "frozen" like some folks get with the 4Lo actuator. Maybe trying to shift and SAFELY have a helper tap on the transfer case with a hammer. Where are you located? maybe cold weather is exacerbating and sticking issues you're having... Just some ides I thought of...

Yeah I’ve shifted it into 4HI and 4LO multiple times. I sunk my car in a mud hole a few months back after a hurricane. After that is when it happened so I’m not too sure

The vent tube is known to rot where it comes off the actuator and may have allowed muck in when you sunk your rig. Pretty easy to check that; just get under there with a flashlight and possibly an inspection mirror, see if the vent tube is cracked where it comes off the nipple. It was on my never-offroad-in-its-life '07 when I checked last September.

There are a number of threads on how to (carefully!) take the actuator apart to see if it's gunked up; up to you if you want to try and rehab it or just buy a new one. Best price I found was ~$650 off Amazon.

Cool man. I’ll get under there today and check it out. My dads the one that sunk it so I’ll see if he will pay for it haha. My only question is that when we sunk it, it was in 4HI. Then when we were driving home I flipped it into 2HI. Ever since I haven’t tried to put it in 4WD cause I’ve been at college. I’m at the Citadel in S.C., so I haven’t been able to drive my car much. So I’ll check it out and if it comes to it, my dad knows a guy that owns a repair place and he could take a look at it. I already had to replace 5 pulley systems cause they had mud and sand caked up in them. The truck wouldn’t go over 35mph and wouldn’t rev up in neutral.
