4wd shifter not working

Noob checkin in,

Have an 01 4runner limited. My 4wd push button works fine as when I press it, all 4 lights light up green, the center diff lock also lights up properly when I press the bottom. The huge problem is that the 4wd shifter seems to be completely shot. It will not stay in any gear and has absolutely not "tightness" to it. Just sort of flops around. Planning on taking it into a shop ASAP however was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this or could take some guesses as to what it could be. Possibly the transfer case electric motor? Help, please!

I hate it when my gear shifter is limp and floppy. :girl:

It must be broken. Your shifter only moves forward and backwards. The center consol need to be removed and the gear shifter accessed. Remove the 4 bolts holding the shifter to the transfercase and inspect for damage. If broken, replace with another.

This issue has nothing to do with the electric transfer case actuator.

Thx for the useful info singtoe,

I managed to play around with the thing to get it to work eventually :hat:
however i believe it still should be replaced because it isnt solid, just barely in working condition. Thanks again.
