4WD Shifter Squeak Interior

Anyone else hear a constant squeaky sound at highways speeds coming from their shifters, more specifically their 4WD shifter? Not a mechanical issue. It's just an annoying sound in the interior.

I can kill the sound if I hold it firm while driving 60+mph. I have a 3" body lift if that matters.

Any solutions to kill the rattle? Thx

The transfer case shifter bushing is known to deteriorate. They are not hard to replace and you can get a replacement bushing from Marlin Crawler. Toyota doesn't sell just the bushing so you have to buy the whole shifter top plate which is much more money. While you're in there, it might be the opportunity to renew your auto trans shifter bushings too if your shifter is a little sloppy. The video below will help you out.

3" body lift? Make sure your shifter isn't contacting the body of the truck...

I missed that part. Yeah, a 3 inch body lift can cause issues. I bet some of the OPs wiring harnesses are stretched pretty tight. From what I remember, 2 inches was the max before you have to start considering altering your wiring.

I started hearing a squeak from the j shifter about 3 months ago. Mostly when getting on/off the gas at lower speeds. Sounds similar to the noise I hear occasional in 4th gear, which I’ve heard other 5 speed owners mention so that one’s fairly common. No body lift either.

I did do a short shifter kit for my manual trans shifter about 8 months ago, but didn’t touch the t-case shifter :noidea:
