4WD U Joint Problem

I'm new to the site and I've been trying find a situation like mine but I've been unsuccessful. I have a 1997 4WD 4Runner with 210,000 miles and I was changing the oil and adding grease to the u-joints today. While adding grease to the u joint on the front drive shaft for the front wheels, the nipple popped off the u joint!!! I was on about the 3rd or 4th pump when it popped off and the nipple looks like it was pressed in instead of threaded. I'm the original owner of the vehicle and the u joints that are on it are the ones that came with the vehicle when I purchased it new.

I assume I'm going to have to replace the u joint, does anyone know what size u joint I need and how difficult the process is?

The parts store can tell you what part number, replacing it isn't too hard if you have a large vice, snap ring pliers, a hammer, and a couple of sockets. That's the minimum tools needed.

It does just snap in. Probably okay, but it could mean you have an obstruction in the channel for the grease. If so, even a new one will just pop off.

Hopefully you are okay, but do pay attention to what happens when you replace it.

Good luck
